Premier Junior Hurling Quarter Final

Crecora Manister         1:14

Caherline                     2:19

Following on from our qualification from the group stages, our hurling team were back in action 6 days later with a quarter final game v Caherline in Fedamore on Saturday 20th September. Hopes were high that we could build on the great win from the previous week and advance to the semi-final stage. However, we were defeated on a scoreline of 2-19 to 1-14 to bring our championship hopes to an end. We played towards the road goal in the first half with the slight breeze in our favour. We started brightly and enjoyed the majority of possession but were struggling to turn the possession into scores. Caherline added a number of points before we got off the mark with a point from Cathal O’Neill. Cathal added a number of frees as we edged into the game. Caherline struck for a goal midway through the first half to stretch their lead. We continued to press with points from Cathal and Padraig Byrnes but we conceded another goal just on the half time whistle to put 7 points between the teams at half time. Our lads continued to battle in the second half without making significant inroads into the lead. That fight continued to the end with a goal from Niall Conheady but it came too late to influence the final outcome. The players and management team put a lot of effort into the season and were rewarded with qualification to the knock-out stages but attention now turns to the football team. Squad Ger Kennedy, Rory Hannan, Colm Parnell, Tim Moloney, Thomas Shanahan, Cathal O’Neill, James Conheady, Conor Kirby, Mark Shanahan, Jack Dalton, Edwin Wixted, Padraig Byrnes, Rian O’Byrne, Sean Keyes, David Rickard, Ned O’Meara, Ciaran Cusack, Sean Malone, Brendan Power, Damien Kearney.

Minor Semi-Final

SLCM                           2:24

NewCastle West           1:12

Great performance by our minor hurlers on Thursday night in our county minor semi-final in Mick Neville Park against a spirited Newcastle side. Our lads set out their stall right from the start when we scored an early goal. We then had a few more points on the board before NCW scored their first point. Both sides exchanged points before we struck for another goal. The NCW lads then scored a goal but our lads responded with a few more points to leave the half time score SLCM 2 12 NCW 1 8. Our lads maintained their intensity again in the second half with both sides picking off points ensuring an entertaining contest. However, in the closing stages our lads really showed their character and discipline by finishing the match with a run of 8 unanswered points to finish the match SLCM 2 24 Newcastlewest 1 12. All our lads played great but some huge performances from our defence, goalkeeper, free taking and workmanlike performances all over. Thanks again for your support.

U14 Hurling County Final

Crecora Manister          1:07

Southside Gaes             2:05

A lovely morning greeted both teams at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale, as our Crecora Manister U14’s took on Southside Gaels in the eagerly awaited County U14 Hurling Final

Our boys came into the game unbeaten all year and full of belief, having shown tremendous heart, determination, and commitment throughout the season and despite having a small squad, there was no shortage of spirit.

The game started at a high tempo, and while we played some fine hurling in the first half, we went in at the break trailing by 3 points after some stout defending from brothers Lewis & Thomas O’Mahony, Tommy Keys and Niall Mulqueen against a very strong Southside forward line. Early in the second half, Southside Gaels struck for a goal to stretch their lead to 7 points, but our lads never dropped their heads and fought back bravely when a great pass from Seán Hickey found his bother Conor who duly finished to the net. We produced some excellent hurling in this period which saw us draw level with just minutes remaining. Unfortunately, in the dying moments, Southside Gaels were awarded a free and converted it to win by the narrowest of margins, a single point.

While the result didn’t go our way, we are extremely proud of this exceptional group of young players. A sincere thank you goes to the management team of Ger Hickey, Paul O’Mahony, and Ger Browne, whose hard work, dedication, and guidance have brought this team so far.

Team: Will Shea; Niall Mulqueen; Lewis O’Mahony; Thomas O’Mahony; Scott Fitzgerald(0-01); Tommy Keyes; Shane Holmes; Fionn Kennedy; Adam O’Brien; Mark Travers; Conor Hickey (1-06); Adam McKinley; Aidan Hartnett; Conor Browne; Sean Cobbe; Seán Hickey; Luke Kennedy; Cillian O’Mahony; Daragh Ryan(Inj); Alex Barry(Inj)
