Club Notes 31st Aug

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:
County Minor Hurling 13 a Side Championship:
Crecora Manister 8 – 8 Killeedy 3 – 19.

City Junior B Football Championship:
Crecora Manister 1 – 18 Ballybrown 0 – 3.

County Under 16 Hurling Championship:
Tournafulla 6 – 9 Kilpeacon 6 – 4.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our junior footballers beat Ballybrown by 1 – 18 to 0 – 3 in their last round robin game last Wednesday in Crecora. They will now play Ballybrown again in the City semi final with a time, date and venue for that fixture still to be decided.

MINORS:
Our minor hurlers had a fine win last Tuesday night against Killeedy in Crecora. They were somewhat unlucky to go in six points down at half time to a Killeedy side that included two players that recently played against Galway in the All-Ireland Minor quarter final. However, our lads produced a powerful battling display in the second half but still found themselves trailing by eight points with five minutes to play. The lads’ never say die attitude paid off thankfully as they scored four goals in the last five minutes to win by four: 8 – 8 (32) to 3 – 18 (28). They now play Bruree on Tuesday in Crecora at half 6 in their penultimate group game. Just one win from their last two games will see them through to the knockout stages.
Our footballers play their last game on Friday against Kilteely also in Crecora at 6.30pm. A win for us, along with favourable results in other games, will see us through also to the knockout stages. Your support for both games is welcome as always.

UNDER 16:
Kilpeacon (Crecora Manister and Fedamore) travelled to Tournafulla to play them in an u16 Hurling match recently. We started sluggishly and they got a few early scores. Once we settled we started to play much better and there was some good passing movements. While we were well down at half time , the lads really upped their performance in the second half.
We came right back into the game with strong performances from Karl Moloney , Michael Fitzgerald, Thomas Shanahan, Donnacha Connolly and Sam O’Donnell. Our forwards were now a threat and good goals were scored by Shane O’Connor, Richard Murphy, Cathal O’Neill and Sam O’Donnell. The players did themselves proud in the second half. We probably could have won this game if we had not conceded the early goals. Our last match is Monday 31st August in Crecora versus Rathkeale.
Our squad on the night were : Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, Ben Kirby, Thomas Shanahan, Colin Haigney, Karl Moloney, Richard Murphy, Donnacha Connolly, Karl Moloney, Sam O’Donnell, Shane O’Connor, James Conheady, Niall Khan, Conor Godfrey, Cathal O’Neill, Ciaran Kennedy.

UNDER 14:
Our under 14 hurlers have a winner-takes-all play off game versus our neighbours Patrickswell this Staurday at 11am in Patrickswell. A win for our lads would see them through to the cup semi final against Ballybrown, while defeat will see us into the shield final where Ahane await. Once again, your support is welcome on Saturday.
Meanwhile, our under 14 footballers will play Ballyhoura Gaels (Blackrock, Effin, Staker Wallace) in the division 2 semi final in the upcoming weeks. The time, date and venue of that game is still to be confirmed.

UNDER 13:
Our under 13 hurlers begin their campaign this Wednesday evening against Kilmallock in Kilmallock at 6.15. The following week they play St,Kierans at home in Crecora. Your support is welcome.

JUNIOR HURLERS:
Our junior hurlers played their last championship game last Saturday night 15th August. Unfortunately they were unlucky to go down to Patrickswell by the slimmest of margins 1-13 to 1-12 in Mungret. This was our third narrow defeat in a row in the competition and had luck been on our side, we might’ve qualified for the semi finals.
Team: Stephen Keating; Ger Kelliher, Eoin O’Callaghan, Joe Burke; Cian Leahy, Shane Moloney, Tim Moloney; Rob Hourigan, Evan Moloney; Michael Bateman, Mike McCormack, Edwin Wixted; Garbhan Sheehan, Niall Moloney, Cormac Flanagan; Conor Burke.

JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS:
Our junior B footballers continue to train away. Their next game is against St. Patricks on Wednesday 19th August at 7pm in Crecora with Ballybrown to come the week after.

MINOR HURLERS:

This was our first competitive hurling match since April and it was worth the wait as the match was tight and hard fought with success for Crecora. We dominated the open period of the game but failed to take all our chances. However Edwin Wixted kept us in the game with his free taking and good points were also scored by Shane O’Connell, Conor Kirby and Tomas Connolly. The half time score had Tournafulla ahead by a point 1 – 7 to 0 – 9.
Crecora made a blistering start to the second half with some lovely points from Edwin, Conor and Damian Kearney. However Tour kept in touch and it was all to play for with three minutes to go when Michael Bateman put over a super point to give us the lead and then Conor Kirby put in a great ball from the corner into the square and Shane O’Connell pulled on it to the goal to assure us a victory.
Some super performances were given by our back line especially Paraic O’Neill, Jake Loughran and Tomas Connolly and our goal keeper Ciaran Humphreys who made some fine saves. Edwin Wixted scored 11 of our points and had great support from Michael Bateman.
Team: Ciaran Humphrey; Paraic O’Neill, Cian Leahy; Evan Keogh, Tomas Connolly (0 – 1), Jake Loughran; Edwin Wixted (0 – 11), Karl Moloney; Barry Fitzgibbon, Michael Bateman (0 – 1), Shane O’Connell (0 – 1); Damian Kearney (0 – 1), Conor Kirby (0 – 2); Donnacha Connolly, Michael Fitzgerald and Thomas Roche.
Final Score was Crecora – Manister 1 – 17 Tournafulla 1 – 13.

MINOR FOOTBALLERS:
On Friday evening our minor footballers made the long journey to Kilbeheny to take on the locals Galtee Gaels in the County Championship. This was an enjoyable game of football with both teams giving their all to try and win the game. There was never more than a kick of a ball between the teams on the scoreboard throughout the match. There was great determination shown by our lads and from some good passing of the ball we got some excellent scores.
After playing with the wind in the first half, we were just two points ahead at the break and we knew it would take a mighty second half to win this game. We held on to the lead most of the way through the second half, but with about five minutes remaining we conceded a goal to go one point behind.
We tapped on two more points and went on to win the game by the narrowest of margins. The long journeys continue for us as we are away to Mountcollins in our next game this Tuesday 18th August at 7pm.
Final Score: Crecora – Manister 4 – 12 Galtee Gaels 3 – 14.
Team: Michael Fitzgerald; Tomas Connolly, Evan Keogh, Tim Moloney, Robert Greer, Paraic O’Neill, Donnacha Connolly, Karl Moloney, Barry Fitzgibbon, Shane o’Connell (3 – 4), Michael Bateman (0 – 1), G O’Connell (0 – 4), Ciaran Humphries, Damien Kearney (1 – 3).

Our hurlers are back in action next Monday 24th August against Tournafulla away at 7.15pm. Their last match will be at home to Rathkeale on 31st August.
