Minor Hurlers season back on track

Our minor hurlers, Tory Gaels, got their season back on track with a good win over Killaculla Gaels.

Our play lacked cohesion in the first half  and consequently faced a five point deficit at the interval, trailing 1 – 9 to 0 – 7.

The second half showed a significant improvement throughout with key goals by Seán Irla Cahill and Micheál O’Neill bringing us into the game.

Our defense were now dominant and restricted Killaculla to a solitary second half score.

Points were added by M. O’Neill (6), C. Flanagan and D. Kearney giving a final score of 2 – 14 to 1 – 10.

Finally, we wish Darragh O’ Farrell a speedy recovery from hand injury.

Silverware for our Junior Hurlers

Our Junior hurlers played Fedamore in the All County Hurling League Division 3 final on Thursday 14th August in Claughan grounds which were in excellent condition.
In windy but dry conditions we came out on top by 2 – 17 to 0 – 8.
Fedamore played with the wind in the first half and we got a tonic start with an early Michael O’Neill goal. This really set back the Fedamore challenge and gave our lads a foundation to build on and we took some nice points in the 2nd half.
We used a full 20 players on the night and with the games coming up our panel will be crucial as we have a game each weekend and a back fixture also to squeeze in.

Our Captain Mike McCormack received the cup from Liam O’Sullivan and lets hope he collects more silverware this year!

The full panel of players who played in this league campaign were: Steve Keating, Pa Walsh, Niall Moloney, Pa Sullivan, Ger Kelliher, Shane Moloney, Colin Kelly, Rob Hourigan , Enda O’Shea, Steve Donoghue , Mike McCormack, Steve Quinn , Ian Donoghue, Brian Moloney ,Ger Hickey Brian Relihan, Mike Gammell, Damien Kearney, Dom O’Connor, Liam Carey, Colm Carey, Joe Burke, Tim Moloney, Liam Quirke, Cillian Rea, Padraic Sheehan, Niall Carmody, Gar Sheehan, Colm Keyes, Steven McDermott, Richard Kelliher, Tim Moloney, Cathal Scully, Fergal Carey, James Carroll, Michael O’Neill.

Standout performances from Paul Collins & Jay McCilligan

U16 Football:

U16 Football 13 aside Crecora Manister  v  St. Senans in Crecora on Monday 11th August at 19:30

Team: Evan Keogh, Tomas Connolly, Paraic O’Neill, Donnacha Connolly, Mark Shanahan, Michael Bateman, Jay McCilligan, Karl Moloney, Peter Boohan,Shane O’Connell, Paul Collins, Robert Grere ,Jack Galvin, and Neil Heffernan.

This was an important game for us to be sure of our place in the shield and a strong performance was displayed by the team with stand-out performances from Paul Collins who scored 5 points and Jay McCilligan who scored 2 goals and 2 points.

Shane O’Connell also scored 3 points and Karl Moloney  a point.

The team had to be changed a bit due to holiday’s injuries and sickness but there were no signs of that on the pitch especially from our backs when put under pressure from St. Senans.

Tomas  and Donnacha Connolly and Mark Shanahan were rock solid along with Paraic O’Neill in our back line.

Final Score: Crecora Manister  2 – 11 St. Senans 2 – 4

Best performance of season so far from U16 Hurlers

U16 Hurling Division. 13 a side. Crecora/Manister V Kilteely/ Dromkeen 19:30 August 10th 2014 in Kilteely/ Dromkeen

Team: Ian de Capitini, Tomas Connolly, Paraic O’Neill,  Mark Shanahan, Cian Leahy, Evan Keogh, Edwin Wixted, Karl Moloney, Donnacha Connolly, Michael Bateman, Shane O’Connell, Conor Kirby, John Blake. Shane O’Connor and Richard Murphy.

Crecora gave their best performance of the season so far with a great victory over a strong Kilteely Drumkeen outfit.

We had 15 players for this 13 aside game and all were used and to a man each of them gave a battling performance with a passion and hunger for the game.

First half scores came from Edwin Wixted 3pts, Michael Bateman 1 goal and a point, Shane O’Connell 1 goal and a point and Conor Kirby 1 point to leave the half time score: Crecora Manister 2 – 6  Kilteely Drumkeen 0 – 4

Second half saw more of the same with great scores coming from Conor Kirby 2 goals and 3 points, Michael Bateman another goal and point, Shane O’Connell a goal and point, Edwin another point and one from John Blake.

Backs and forwards alike were brilliant with big performances from Evan Keogh, Mark Shanahan and Cian Leahy  our inspirational Centre back who sadly had to go off after receiving a blow to his hand. It subsequently turns out to be a broken finger and another dislocated so he will be out for the rest of the season. We all wish him a speedy recovery and will miss him greatly.

Final score Crecora Manister  6 – 12 Kilteely Dromkeen  1 – 5
