CRECORA MANISTER G.A.A CLUB Secretary’s Report 2012

For the first time in the clubs history the Junior A hurlers won the all County Junior hurling league title in September and the Scòr na nÒg figure dancers won the All Ireland Scòr na nÒg Final.

Great work is going on under the chairmanship of Pat Byrnes at underage level. The U6 – U8 and U10s played many games and blitz’s during the year.

The U12s played numerous matches in both codes culminating in the Gaelic grounds in September.

The U13s and U14s played a lot of matches with the U14 hurlers winning the County title with a narrow win over Croagh–Kilfinny in an exciting game

The U14 footballers lost the County League Final to Old Christians and the County Championship semi-final to St Kierans

The U16 footballers beat St Patricks on their way to a County Semi-final only to lose to Oola, again losing to Adare in the Shield Semi-final. The U16 hurlers played in a very competitive league winning a few matches.

The minor and U21s joined with Claughan under the name Michael Cusacks. The minor hurlers qualified for the B Semi-final losing to Cappamore.

The minor footballers drew the City Final over the two legs only to lose in extra time by 4 points before losing the County Semi-Final to Pallasgreen.

The U21 hurlers drew at the City Final before losing the replay beating Cappamore in the County Semi-final , losing the County final to Drom-Broadford.

The Junior A hurlers won all their matches in the All County League beating Stakers in the County final by 3-12 to 0.9 in Bruff.

In the City league we won all our matches, drawing with Ballybrown in the semi-final before winning the replay by 1-11 to 1-8, losing the City Final to St Patricks by 3-11 to 3-15.

We beat Old Christians and Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the City Championship but did not qualify for the knockout stages.

Congratulations to Conor Bourke, Cormac Flanagan and David Macken for their involvement in the County U16 squads and to Edwin Wixted for his involvement in the County U14 hurling squad.

Thanks to the selectors of all age groups for their tremendous work and commitment during the year and to John Ryan and Derek Casey for their work with the junior squad.

Well done to our national school teams – Crecora-Manister and Roxboro for their successes during the year also our community games team for winning the County Final of the 15 a side hurling competition for the second year in a row.

Special mention must go to the U14 Feile Camogie team who represented the area so well in the All Ireland Feile Final.

Congratulations to our Scòr na nÒg figure dancers for winning City, Munster and All Ireland titles. Especially Nora O’Connor and Muirne Bennis for preparing the team. Already this year the Scòr na NÒg figure dancers and quiz team have won City and County titles and are through to the Munster final which takes place at the end of January.

Thanks to all the coaches who helped in running the summer camp, 58 kids took part. Limerick hurling manager John Allen also attended.

Field: – Thanks to John McCarthy for field bookings and Gerry Moloney for keeping the field in such great order with help from Bill Mulcahy. The synthetic surface at the hurling wall was completed this year, thanks to everyone who helped.
Social and Financial:- The development draw was again our major fundraiser. A very successful race night was held in the Woodlands hotel in October in conjunction with Crecora National School. Thanks to everyone who helped especially Noel Murphy and school principle Catherine Tobin. Other fundraising events were table quiz – car parking and bag packing. Thanks to everyone who helped.

Games: – The games sub-committee met many times during the year discussing the issues that arise.

A golf society was formed during the year under Chairmanship of Shane O’Hanrahan with a number of very successful outings during the year.

Finally I would like to thank our sponsors, Sub-Committees and their Chairman. My fellow committee members, especially John Browne for his great work as Treasurer an our Chairman Eddie Sheehan who’s tireless work ethic is an inspiration to us all.
