JUNIOR FOOTBALLERS
Our Junior footballers lost out in the  City  A Football Final to  a strong Kildimo/Pallaskenry side on Saturday last where very heavy underfoot conditions restricted both sides from their usual  free flowing football. Two five minute spells, one at the start and another  at the towards the end of the match,  proved decisive in this encounter.  Kildimo/Pallaskenry had the advantage of a stiff breeze in the opening half  and settled quickly scoring 1 – 2 to no reply. Crecora Manister then grew into the game and  two well taken points from Gary O’Connell and Mike McCormack, kept us in contention. A  great save by the Kildimo/Pallaskenry keeper during this stage  ensured that they went into the break leading 1 – 4 to 0 – 2.

The third quarter saw a period of Crecora Manister dominance and three unanswered points from Darach Skelly and Michael O’Neill (2)  reduced the gap to two points. While other scoring chances went a begging for us, Kildimo/Pallaskenry  rallied well  and matched another Gary O’Connell effort with their own point from play.  With a minute remaining, and Crecora Manister on the offensive seeking the elusive goal, Kildimo/Pallaskenry broke from defence and scored the killer goal to give a final score of 2 – 5 to 0 – 6.

With the conditions,  this was always going to be a day for defences and our defensive unit excelled, with Shane O’Connell reliable as ever and a tigerish full back line lead by man-of-the match Tim Moloney. Our half back line and midfield worked tirelessly throughout. Our forward covered back continuously and while scoring in the conditions was difficult, we were unlucky on several occasions.  The changes, when introduced, did well and ensure that we have a strong panel as we progress to the county quarter final in October. Again, we pass on congratulations to Kildimo-Pallaskenry.
Panel on the day: Shane O’Connell, Evan Moloney, Tim Moloney, Shane Moloney, Cathal Scully, Cormac Flanagan, Peter Power, David Macken, Micheál O’Neill(0 – 2), Gary O’Connell(0 – 2), Conor Burke,  Damien Kearney, Rob Henehan, Mike McCormack (0 – 1), Darragh Skelly (0 – 1), Mark Shanahan, Ian O’Donoghue, John Buckley, Garbhan Sheahan, David Cregan, Eoin Kennedy.

UNDER 16 HURLING
Kilpeacon played Granagh Ballingarry last Friday night in a play-off match at Crecora. We started well and put in a good first half with some good hurling. Rory Hannon was solid in goals and our half backs won a lot of good possession. Shane O’Connor got a good goal and Cathal O’Neill put over some fine points. Brendan Power was unlucky that his shot came off the keeper. At half time we led by 1 – 14 to 1 – 6 after playing with a slight breeze. Granagh Ballingarry came very much into the game after the break and two quick goals had them back in the match. Both sides exchanged points and Granagh Ballingarry went into a 2 point lead after another goal.
Our lads really knuckled down at this stage and good points from Richard Murphy, Tom Shanahan, James Conheady steadied the ship. It was end to end hurling at this stage until Colin Haigney pulled first time to send the ball to the net. We were now 3 points up in injury time. Credit to Granagh Ballingarry who came down the field and won a free which barely went over the crossbar, final score Kilpeacon 2 – 22 Granagh Ballingarry 4 – 14.
We are now in Shield County semi-final. This was a good game of hurling and thanks to all supporters who helped to make it a great night.
Our squad on the night was: Rory Hannon, Padraig Byrnes, Tim Lyons, Cian Enright, Ciaran Humphries, Richard Murphy, Sean Cregan, Donnacha Connolly, James Conheady ,Cathal O’Neill, Colin Haigney, Tom Shanahan, Brendan Power, Shane O’Connor, Mikey Cummins, Eric Cregan, Ciaran Kennedy, John Bourke, Sam Riordan, Eoghan O’Connor.
We then played Pallasgreen in the shield semi final last Saturday in Pallasgreen but the match was abandoned due to atrocious weather conditions. The re-fixture is next Saturday 1st October in Pallasgreen at 11pm.

Club Notes 19th Sept

We are heading into the business end of the season now with only a couple of weeks of competitive action left and while some recent Semi Finals have not gone our way results wise with the U14’s and Junior A Hurlers , there is still plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks with our U16 hurlers and Footballers looking forward to Semi finals in their respective competitions , the hurlers will face Pallasgreen and the footballers will face Rathkeale in the coming weeks , dates and times to be confirmed.

Our Junior A Footballers play their city final this coming Saturday and our Minors are still in the hunt for honours.

Our U12’s recently played their end of season Blitz’s and accounted very well for themselves and our U13 hurlers and footballers are currently playing their league games in preparation for next years U14 campaign.

Oir U8’s recently played a blitz in Adare and from reports the future is very bright for the club , so all groups are still competing , playing and training which is great for this time of the year.
