U14s Wrap Up Season with Strong Showing at Super 10

Our U14s rounded off their long and hard-fought season with a very impressive performance in the Super 10 competition held at Mick Neville Park on Sunday, October 19th.

We faced tough opposition in Kildimo Pallaskenry, Newcastle West, and ABK, and the team rose to the challenge with some outstanding displays across the day. These performances are ones we’re extremely proud of and provide a solid foundation to build on for next season.

This is a talented and resilient group of players, who just last month were narrowly beaten by a single point in the County Final.

A big thank you to all the parents and supporters for their encouragement throughout the year, and a special word of appreciation to the management team of Ger Hickey, Paul O’Mahony, and Ger Browne for their dedication and commitment.

Dean Ryan 17A

Best of luck to Sam Collins and Cian Hickey who are representing ArdScoil Ris tomorrow in the Quarter Final of the Dean Round playing Nenagh CBS in Newport at 1:30.

Match Reports

Intermediate Football Result

Crecora Manister 1-11

Pallasgreen 1-09

Our intermediate footballers headed into Rhebogue on Saturday afternoon for a make or break game against old foes Pallasgreen who have been our nemesis for the last few years. A win would cement 4th place in our group while a loss could see us entering a relegation battle. Following our superb win against Gerald Griffins 2 weeks previous, the lads were on a high following some solid training over the last 2 weeks.

When the ball was thrown in, Cathal won primary possession and it was straight into attack mode and with less than 2 mins on the clock we were a point to the good following a free from Mark Shanahan. Pressing the Pallas kickout paid some good dividends over the next 10 mins and we had good scores from play from Mike Mc, Cormac Flanagan and Rory Hannan before Pallas started to get a bit of a grip in their half forward line and put up the next 2 scores from play.

Flano then got his second from play to stem the tide and this was traded with another from Pallas before a super team move saw the ball played into David Rickard who timed his pass perfectly to Brian Dolphin to punch the ball to the back of the net for the first green flag of the game. However, Pallas were not going away and a goal and a point of their own cut the gap to a single point before Mark Shanahan scored another great free to lead us into the break with a 2 point lead.

The second half took on much the same story as the first with our lads having a lot of the possession but the Pallas defense were stingy and not giving up too much space. However, after about 8 mins of the restart , a brilliant 2 pointer free from Mark put us 2 points up and for the next 15 mins we traded scores with Pallas with another free from Mark and a well worked point from Brian Dolphin had us 4 up with 10 to play however Pallas cut that lead to 2 before Davis Rickard kicked a lovely point and left Pallas searching for a goal. Thankfully they could only muster a point and we ran out 2 point winners on the day.

Team on the day – Stephen Keating, David Macken, Colm Parnell, Tim Moloney, Rory Hannan, Patrick Dolphin, Cormac Flanagan, Ciaran Cusack, Cathal O’Neill, Sean Malone, Mark Shanahan, Sam Riordan, Brian Dolphin, Mike McCormack, David Rickard, Thomas Shanahan, Padraig Byrnes, Con Kirby

Thanks to Noel Murphy, Mossy Fitzgerald, Tom Connolly, Martin Frawley and Ger Riordan for their help over the season.

U20 – First Round

CMSL     2:12

ABK        1:15

Our U20 hurlers opened their championship campaign with a hard-fought draw against a strong ABK side in ideal conditions at South Liberties. There was very little to separate the teams throughout a tightly contested first half. Both sides were well up for the challenge, with some great passages of play and solid defending on show. A crucial goal from our lads just before the break gave us a slight edge, sending us into halftime with a narrow 2-point lead.

The second half continued in similar fashion, with both teams trading scores in an intense and evenly matched battle. Despite opportunities on both sides to push ahead, the game finished level – a fair result in what was a tough and competitive encounter.

Plenty of positives to take from the performance, and we now look ahead to our next fixture against Killacolla Gaels on October 26th.

U16 Final

CMSL                           1:11

Granagh Ballingarry      0:22

Hard luck to our U16s who were beaten in the county final on Saturday in Mick Neville Park. The boys gave it everything and battled right to the final whistle, but unfortunately came up short on the day.

It’s been a fantastic campaign from this group all season, showing great commitment, skill, and teamwork. Well done to the management team for their commitment all year.

We look forward to seeing them continue their development as they move on to the Minor team next year. Bright futures ahead!

U16 Hurling Championship Semi-Final Report

South Liberties Crecora Manister 4-07

Belville Gaels 0-04

Venue: Askeaton GAA Grounds

Date/Time: Saturday October 04th 9:30am

South Liberties Crecora Manister booked their place in the U16 Hurling Championship Final with a comprehensive victory over Belville Gaels in a windswept Askeaton on Saturday morning. Despite the early throw-in and difficult playing conditions, the team produced a strong, composed performance to run out deserving 4-07 to 0-04 winners.

The swirling wind made scoring from distance extremely difficult but goals proved decisive in this semi-final encounter. After a cagey opening, Cian Hickey struck the game’s first goal on 11 minutes to settle his side. Just five minutes later, Cillian O’Doherty found the net to extend the advantage, giving South Liberties Crecora Manister a commanding seven-point lead at the break.

Belville Gaels battled bravely after the restart, but ten minutes into the second half O’Doherty struck again with his second goal of the game, this was a decisive moment that effectively ended hopes of a comeback for the Feohanagh-Castlemahon and Feenagh-Kilmeedy amalgamation. A fourth goal from Paddy O’Connell put the result beyond doubt, while points from Cian and Gearóid Hickey, Peter Ryan, Danny and David Fitzpatrick ensured a convincing final scoreline.

At the other end, Sam Collins was solid between the posts, handling the tricky conditions superbly. In defence, Dano Sheehan, Cuan Kilroy, and Daragh Mulvihill were outstanding, cutting out several dangerous attacks and driving the team forward throughout.

It was a strong all-round team display from South Liberties Crecora Manister, who now advance to the final where they will meet a very strong Granagh-Ballingarry side fresh from their victory over Newcastle West at the same venue on Saturday morning.

Team: Sam Collins, Charlie Murphy, Dano Sheehan, Dara Nash, John O’Donovan, Cian Hickey 1-03, Daragh Mulvihill, Cuan Kilroy, Paddy O’Connell 1-00, Peter Ryan 0-01, Danny Fitzpatrick 0-01, Patrick Concannon, Geraóid Hickey 0-01, Daver Fitzpatrick 0-01, Cillian O’Doherty 2-00, Daniel Lane, James Butler, Sean McMahon, Marcus Hartigan, Julian Quinn, Ollie Walsh and Ronan Downes.
