Under 21 Hurling

Our under 21 Hurlers returned to winning ways last Saturday with a battling win over Southside Gaels (Claughaun/Old Christians/St. Patrick’s) in Rhebogue. It finished up 3-13 to 1-15, Conor Kirby with two goals and Brendan Power with the other. Edwin Wixted, Ciarán Humphreys, Cathal O’Neill, Donnacha Connolly and Shane O’Connell all got some nice points while Mark Shanahan, Páraic O’Neill and Karl Moloney were dominant in the backs.

We now await the result of next weekend’s meeting of Ballybrown and Southside to determine whether we progress to the A or B Final. Team: Tomás Connolly; Tom Shanahan, Karl Moloney, Pádraig Byrnes; Cian Leahy, Mark Shanahan, Páraic O’Neill; Rory Hannon, Richard Murphy; Edwin Wixted, Cathal O’Neill, Donnacha Connolly; Ciarán Humphreys, Conor Kirby, Brendan Power. Club Notes 18th February

Under 21 Hurlers:
Our under 21 hurlers came out the wrong side of a 2-19 to 1-19 defeat to Ballybrown in the first round of the City championship last Saturday in Crecora. This was truly a game of two halves as Crecora Manister completely dominated the opening thirty minutes with some fine scores from the outstanding Cathal O’Neill, Conor Kirby and Edwin Wixted and a goal by Brendan Power leaving it at 1-12 to 0-3 at half time. However playing into the wind in the second half we struggled to get scores and the momentum turned in Ballybrown’s favour with two fortuitous goals proving crucial as they eventually ran out winners by three points in what was a hugely entertaining contest of a very high standard.

Our lads’ next game is Saturday week the 2nd March with time and venue TBC.

Team: Pádraig Byrnes; Cian Leahy, Karl Moloney, Tom Shanahan; Páraic O’Neill, Mark Shanahan, Rory Hannon; Cathal O’Neill, James Conheady; Edwin Wixted, Michael Bateman, Donnacha Connolly; Conor Kirby, Tomás Connolly, Brendan Power; Richard Murphy, Chris Shanahan, Ciarán Humphreys, Shane O’Connell, Jack Dalton.
