Minor Football – County Champions!
Within one year of their inception, Kilpeacon minor footballers are County Minor Football B champions following an emphatic win over a fancied Glennacurrane on Saturday last in Martinstown. Despite the heavy rain that persisted throughout the first half, both sides produced good quality free flowing football. Kilpeacon settled quickly with Cormac Flanagan causing havoc to the opposition’s full back line and Micheál O’Neill and Craig McNamara taking good scores. A well taken goal by Craig McNamara help set the tone for the game and a lead we would never relinquish. Glennacurrane kept in touch with some good points from play but a masterful display of disciplined defending in the full back line by the Evan and Tim Moloney and Colm Carey never presented them a sniff at goal which was ably guarded by the reassuring presence of Eoin Enright. Further points by powerful Damien Kearney and three by the resurgent Micheál O’Neill gave us a 1.6 to 0.4 half time advantage. The open spaces of Martinstown allowed David Cregan to use his pace to a great extend in both defense and attack and the work-rate and play making skills of Gary O’Connell were a joy to behold.

Fears of a comeback were eased after five minutes of the second half when Seán Fitzgerald showed his vision and versatility at full forward and set-up Damien Kearney for a cracking goal. At this stage David Macken and C. Flanagan were dominant at midfield and David got reward for his great work with a sweetly taken point. Further points were added by Craig McNamara (2) and Damien Kearney. Glennacurrane continued to battle with their strong midfield axes and and never gave up and it required a great defensive effort by out half backs the combative Nicky Morrissey, the commanding Conor Burke and the ever consistent Liam Carey to keep them at bay. When introduced, Liam Quirke reveled in the open spaces and scored a wonderful solo goal. Late Glencurrane pressure was rewarded with a goal and reflected their never say die spirit. Our late substitutes David Butler, Tom Keogh and Conor and Daragh Griffin helped us helped us safely over the finish line on the scoreline 3.9 to 1.6.

Duirt ár gcaptaen Tim Ó Maoldomhnaigh go raibh áthas air an corn a ghlacadh ar son foireann ‘Kilpeacon’ agus buíochas a ghabháil leis a fhoireann féin, an réiteoir, an lucht féachana, páirc Martinstown, le foireann Glennacurrane agus na bainisteoirí Kilpeacon go leir a chabhraigh leo.

The game brought an end to an excellent football season for our minors. Well done to every panel member who has played a role in achieving both city and county honours for the club. For those involved in minor hurling the pursuit continues.

Firstly a big thank you especially to Noel Kennedy for organising trip to Tralee , but also to Noel Quirke , Henry Nash and Chris O Donnell . There was a lot to organise to get the games to run off smoothly , organise Bus , entry to Aqua Dome , McDonalds and then to have everyone home on time so well done guys.

Also to the parents who travelled , thanks a million . Without your help in keeping all the players together and keeping an eye on them in the pools etc , we would have had a tough time. I think it’s fair to say that everyone who travelled had a great time and a fitting end to the season.

Regarding the games played by the U12’s

The lads did well on Saturday. Took us a little while to make it count but we were much stronger in the hurling and I think the final score was 5-10 to 2-1. They had planned for us to play Kerin O Rahillys in football but we received word the night before to say they couldn’t field a team. We asked the Parnells lads if they would play football and 13 of their lads agreed. The 10s lost their hurling match by 4/5 points. Sam\Darragh O Keefe\Ethan\Ciaran Muir played for the U10’s in hurling so thanks to these guys. The 10s were due to play John Mitchells in football and their coach said they were very strong and given Parnells only had 13 for the U12’s game, we switched a number of 12s to the 10s game – Colin Coughlan, Cian Enright, Darragh Foley, Darragh O’Keefe, Ethan, Ciaran Muir,Sean Kirby,Brendan all agreed to play with the U10’s for the football match so thanks again to these guys for agreeing to play with the 10’s .

In the U12’s football match we struggled a bit at the start but once we settled down and made a couple of positional changes we got right back into the game. John Burke went into goals and made some very good saves. It was quite a niggly game really. Their players were very anxious to beat us in football given that they were from the home of Football .The Ref gave a load of frees against us for our tackling which for the most part he was right. Something we need to work on. We were level 4-6 to 5-3 well into the second half and both teams quite keen but after a few fouls in a row the ref decided to blow up the game a few minutes early. Good to see our lads showing they were as good as them and if we had been able to hold onto the guys who played with the 10’s we would have easily beaten them but as the trip was a fun trip , the results were not that important but the performance of the players shows real potential for this group.

Rest of the day went well. We have a few potential Lifeguards in Noel K and Ken Duggan , well done guys , might see ye on the remake of Baywatch !!!

We are hoping to organise one more match on Saturday 26th Oct if we can get opposition in both hurling and football and I think after that , everyone will be glad of a couple of months break to recharge the batteries.

Coaches Wanted!
If anyone is interested in Coaching or helping out in coaching especially with our underage teams ie U6 , U8 and U10’s in both hurling and/or football please let Ger Riordan or Noel Kennedy know . We are short of football coaches all through the age groups especially at U6 , U8 and U10’s and could even do with another coach at u12’s so if you are interested or know of anyone who is interested, we will organise coaching courses etc to help you.

Minor Football:
Kilpeacon footballers advanced to the County Minor Football B final following a hard-fought win over a strong Drom-Broadford side at the semi-final stage on Saturday last, Oct 5th. Conditions played a significant role in the game, with the aid of a stiff breeze Kilpeacon dominated for long periods in the first half. Early points by Micheál O’Neill(3),Cormac Flanagan,Gary O’Connell, Damien Kearney and the flying Craig McNamara(0.2) and put us 8 pts to 3 up. The critical score of the half came when Craig McNamara goaled from close range leaving the half time score 1.8 to 0.3. This advantage was built on the dominant work around the middle third by David Maken,Sean Fitzgerald and Conor Burke.

As expected Drom-Broadford stormed back early in the second half and scored 1.3 without reply. Excellent goal keeping by Eoin Enright on three occasion and super defending in the full back like by Tim and Evan Moloney and Liam Carey kept our lead intact. As we shored up the defence the tigerish work of Nicky Morrissey and Colm Carey were crucial in turning the tide back in our favour. When introduced, David Cregan covered an immense amount of ground providing a great attacking outlet and combined well with the excellent Gary O’Connell. Our midfield regained dominance again and set up the key points by C.McNamara, David Cregan, M.O’Neill and significanly to the penalty award that was cooly put away by Conor Burke. Late Drom pressure was rewarded with a goal, the introduction of David Butler helped us defensively to hold off the final attacks and see us through on the scoreline 2.11 to 2.7.

Well done to every panel member who has played a role in getting the team to this stage throughout all games thus far.

U6/U8 Hurling
On Saturday 5th October fifteen of the Crecora Manister U6 and U8 Hurlers attended the end of season blitz in Old Christians.

The team played three 10-a-side matches, against Claughaun, Ennistymon and the last match against Scariff (1st half) and South Liberties (2nd half)

All our players got involved, contesting the ball, with some getting very competitive.

The second match against Ennistynmon was a very exciting encounter with our team working hard to get past the Ennistymon backs to score.

The Crecora Manister players had a very enjoyable morning’s hurling and were glad to get well earned rest periods on the subs bench on what was a warm and sunny morning.
