Junior A Hurling
The Crecora / Manister Junior hurlers suffered a 4 point defeat in the City Semi Final against Na Piarsaigh last Saturday. We suffered the same fate as our Limerick senior hurlers in Croke Park when our first half performance was littered with mistakes, nerves and missed opportunities. For whatever reason our team never got going and our players never produced the hurling that had brought them victories against St Pats, Na Piarsaigh and Old Christians in the 3 previous games. We did however have another outstanding performance from Colm Carey at corner back and Ian Donoghue was excellent at corner forward. The team never gave up, tried and worked until the final whistle and showed great character in winning the 2nd half, but left themselves too much to do after a sluggish opening half. The panel is very young and if these players stay together and work as hard again next year, their day will come and they will get those City medals.

Team: S Keating, C Carey, N Moloney, J Burke, G Kelliher, C Kelly, P Walsh, S Moloney, M McCormack, C Keyes, E O’Shea, F Carey, I Donoghue, R Hourigan, S McDermott. Subs: C Burke, S Quinn, G Sheehan, B Relihan, L Carey. T Moloney, M O’Neill, P Sullivan, L Quirke, S Keyes.

Coaches Wanted!
If anyone is interested in Coaching or helping out in coaching especially with our underage teams ie U6 , U8 and U10’s in both hurling and/or football please let Ger Riordan or Noel Kennedy know . We are short of football coaches all through the age groups especially at U6 , U8 and U10’s and could even do with another coach at u12’s so if you are interested or know of anyone who is interested , we will organise coaching courses etc to help you.

Minor Football
Our minor footballers provided Kilpeacon GAA with its first piece of silverware following a resounding win over Claughan in the City Minor Football final on Saturday last. Playing with the elements, Kilpeacon dominated for long periods in the first half. Early scores by Cormac Flanagan, Conor Burke, Micheál O’Neill, David Macken and Damien Kearney put us 5 pts to 2 up. The key score of the half came when Craig McNamara goaled and further points were added by C.Flanagan and C.McNamara leaving the half time score 1.7 to 0.2.

Concerns over a Claughan comeback were allayed when C.Flanagan scored 1.2 early in the second half which put us in complete control. Further goals were added by C.McNamara and David Butler. Claughan battled bravely throughout and it required resolute defending from keeper Eoin Enright who was capably supported by Liam Carey & the Moloney brothers, Evan and Tim, in the full back line to keep them at bay. The half back line of Colm Carey, Nicky Morrissey and David Cregan covered an immense amount of ground and limited Claughan’s attacking options. Midfield dominated throughout with a controlled and disciplined performance by David Macken and a resurgent Conor Burke.

Scoring 4.9 from play illustrated the effectiveness of the forward line, where in the half line the strength and ball winning ability of M.O’Nell and Damien Kearney combined with the guile of Gary O’Connell. In the full line, Liam Quirkle worked tigerishly and created several scoring opportunites, the placement of C.Flanagan at full forward caused chaos in the defensive line and sharpshooting Craig McNamara availed of his chances.

The introduction of David Butler, Conor and Darragh Griffin, Thomas and Evan Keogh saw us over the finish line. In his acceptance speech, Capt. Tim Moloney thanked the referee, coaches (Mossy,Matt,Ger,Noel,John & Leon), Rathbane GAA for their pitch and the sporting Claughan side.

U16 Football
U16 Football Championship Kilpeacon V Hospital/Herbertstown . Venue Crecora, Date 02nd September 2013 at 7:00pm. Full time Big win for Kilpeacon

Kilpeacon waited to the last game in football to give their best performance even with a few players short we still had a 21 man squad and all of them played their hearts out.

Right from the start Kilpeacon showed their intent by scoring points early on and keeping Hospital Herbertstown in their own half and then with goals from Damian Kearney and Jay McCilligan a healthy lead was established of 02:09 to 00:02 at halftime.

The second half followed the same pattern and Jay earned his man of the match performance with 2 more goals and a brace of points. Robert also got a great goal.

There were strong performances all over the field from the Kilpeacon players.

If only we had this turn out at all our matches who knows what might have happened but at least it now looks good for the future.

Kilpeacon Team: Paraic O’Neill , Mark Shanahan ,Tomas Connolly, Eoin Kennedy, Cian Leahy, Edwin Wixted, John Creedon, Barry Fitzgibbon, Damian Kearney (capt), Garry O’Connell , Jay McCilligan, Robert Grere, Donacha Connolly , Jake Loughran, Robert Sweeney, Conor Kirby, Richard and Michael Bateman, Tomas Roche, Cillian Prenderville and Aron Hayes

U12 Hurling & Football
The finals day of U12 League took place on Saturday 6th Sep where we were up against Adare and Patrickswell. Match reports from this will be included next week.

Training continues on Sunday evening at 18:00pm for the U12 footballers and with our football finals day on Sat 14th , we need a full turnout at training please as numbers have been low the last couple of weeks.

Hurling training will also continue on Monday evening at 19:00pm and with most of the U12 panel also being part of the U13 Panel these training sessions are important to attend.

Finally , if anyone is interested in Coaching or helping out in coaching especially with our underage teams ie U6 , U8 and U10’s in both hurling and/or football please let Ger Riordan or Noel Kennedy know . We are short of football coaches all through the age groups especially at U6 , U8 and U10’s and could even do with another coach at u12’s so if you are interested or know of anyone who is interested , we will organise coaching courses etc to help you.

U6 & U8 Hurling
On Friday evening 6th September Crecora Manister hosted an U8 Hurling blitz.
Teams participated from St Patricks, Ballybrown and Crecora-Manister.

Approx 60 players took part, each player laying in 3 games, spread across 4 separate pitches.
The smaller team sizes gave players more opportunity to play the ball and put their skills into practice.

Crecora Manister were well represented with over 20 players taking part from the U6 and U8 age groups.
Our players represented us well by engaging in the games, following the play and displaying their skills which are improving all the time.
The weather stayed dry so there was time for all players to get some refreshments after their games and their busy first full week back to school.

Junior Hurlers
Our Junior hurlers are through to the semifinals of the City Championship after we completed a tough group campaign. Our first game was against Ballybrown and the concession of a late goal cost us victory in a very close match. This game saw the introduction of Colm Carey, Conor Burke, Liam Carey and Cormac Flanagan to junior competition and it’s fair to say that all 4 have acquitted themselves well when they were needed. Later in the campaign Liam Quirke and Tim Moloney became the latest minors to get championship action and it’s great to see young players coming through from our underage structure.

We won our 2nd game against Mungret but unfortunately lost our next game by a single point to Patrickswell, this defeat made it an uphill battle for our team to finish in the top 4, however our team responded brilliantly by putting together 3 wins against Na Piarsaigh, Old Christians and St Pats to complete our group games with 4 wins and 2 defeats. Only one score divided the teams at the finish of these games so it’s fair to say that the semifinals of this championship will be close hard fought games as all teams are very even.

Our panel for the season is: Niall Moloney, Enda O Shea, Steven Keating, Michael McCormack, Colm Keyes, Stephen McDermott, Robert Hourigan, Pa Walsh, Shane Moloney, Damien Walsh, Colin Kelly, Ger kelliher, Stephen Quinn, Brian Relihan, Pa O’Sullivan, Fergal Carey, Sean Keyes, Joe Burke, Paul Murphy, Tim Moloney, Ian Donoghue, Colm Carey, Niall Carmody , Cathal Scully, Liam Carey, Garbhan Sheehan, Liam Quirke , Darra Skelly, Padraic Sheehan, Cathal Quirke, Donimic O’Connor, Paul Murphy, Cathal Quirke & Cormac skelly.

U13 Hurling
We travelled to Newtownshandrum who hosted us in an U13 Hurling Challenge match . This was our first u13 Hurling match of the year and we called up some players that are still u10 and u11. The match proved very beneficial.

Newtown started very well and showed the benefits of focusing primarily on hurling (they play nothing other than Hurling) with good skill levels and excellent team work. Our team were working very hard but the running and passing of the Newtown team was a whole new experience for us. Every time a Newtown player got on the ball, his team mate was running into space to take a pass and the player on the ball was looking up to pass to a player in a better position.

Newtown were well on top in the first half but our lads showed their true potential in the second half and every player gave of his best and we started to play the game much quicker with good passing movements resulting in good scores. The final score in a high scoring game was 7:11 to 4:7 in favour of Newtown.

While we were defeated , every player deserves great credit for the effort shown as Newtown are one of the strongest Hurling Clubs in Cork over the past 15 years at least.

Our Panel on the night were Eoghan O’Connor, Thomas Shanahan, Ciaran Humphries, Sam Riordan, Padraig Byrnes, Richard Murphy, Colin Coughlan, Donnacha Connolly, Cathal O’Neill, Brendan Power, Conor Godfrey, John Bourke, Sean Kirby, Shane O’Connor, Sean O’Gorman, Fergal Egan, Ciaran Kennedy.
