Even contest with some good passing movements

Kilpeacon U14 Hurlers played Granagh Ballingarry in Fedamore in a challenge match recently. This was a very evenly contested affair with good hurling from both teams.

We started slowly and were 6 points down within first 10 minutes as Granagh Ballingarry scored a goal and 3 points. We settled into the game at that stage and two quick goals from Colin Haigney and Conor Godfrey brought us level.

The contest was very close for the remainder of the game. Colin Coughlan added points from frees and with a strong showing from Donnacha Connolly and James Conheady from midfield we led by two points with a few minutes to go. Granagh Ballingarry scored a late goal and the match ended on a score-line of 3:5 to 3:4.

This was a good challenge match and all players contributed well with some good passing movements.

Our squad on the night was: Conor Hannon, Padraig Byrnes, Barry Moore, Brendan Power, Colin Coughlan, Richard Murphy, Thomas Shanahan, Donnacha Connolly, James Conheady, Sam O’Donnell, Jack Dalton, Shane O’Connor, Conor Godfrey, Colin Haigney, Cian Enright, Ethan Hennessy, Ciaran Humphries, Fergal Egan, Chris Shanahan.

Junior Hurlers defeat Mungret in 2nd round of City League

Our Junior hurlers played Mungret in the 2nd round of the City Hurling League on Saturday May 10th in winter conditions on what was a very good Mungret pitch for the rain that fell.

We played with the wind in the opening half and got a great start when Mike Gammell goaled with our first attack.      We continued to dominate possession and added some more points through Brian Molone, Brian Relihan, Rob Hourigan and a Gar Sheehan goal set us up nicely at half time.

At the end of the 1st half we lost Niall Carmody through injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

In the 2nd half it was our turn to face the elements and some good defending coupled with great work at midfield by Mike McCormack kept us on the front foot and we closed the game out well with Ger Kelliher, Brian Moloney with points and a 2nd Gar Sheehan goal.

Michael O’ Neill made his first start at adult level and he can be very pleased with his hours work with Damien Kearney again coming on and these young lads are vital as our season continues.

We lined out as follows:

S Keating, P Walsh, N Moloney, D O’Connor, M O’Neill,  P O’Sullivan, N Carmody, C Scully, M McCormack, S Quinn,  B Relihan,  R Hourigan , G Sheehan, B Moloney, M Gammell,. Subs R Kelliher, D Kearney, G Kelliher.

Junior Hurlers win first game of City League

Our Junior Hurlers played their first game of the City league on Saturday last 3rd May against Patrickswell in Crecora .   This game was played in a fine sporting manner and it flowed from end to end.  Conditions were excellent and there was a fine crowd from both clubs to watch the game

We played with the wind in the 1st half   built up a nice half time lead.   In the 2nd half 2 Patrickswell goals put them right back into the game and we then got our 2nd goal to put us back in the driving seat.

As both teams were not at full strength  and with 6 weeks training to go before the championship, it is obvious that once again the City Championship is going to be another close affair with so many even teams.

It was good to see Brian Moloney and James Carroll back in the Crecora  Manister jersey and both got on the scoreboard.    We ended up winning,  2 – 15 to 2 – 10.  It was an encouraging performance overall and we lined out as follows:

S Keating,  P Walsh, N Moloney,  P O Sullivan, C Kelly, S Moloney, T Moloney R Hourigan, M McCormack , G Kelliher, J Carroll, F Carey, M Gammell, B Moloney, G Sheehan.  J Burke ,B Relihan, D Kearney, N Carmody,

Sunday 6.30pm at home v’s Ballisteen

This year our Minor Footballers are amalgamated with Croom under the name of Tory Gaels and are competing in the Premier division of the County Championship.

On Friday last 2nd May, we got the season off to a good start with a comfortable win away to Monaleen. Both sides were under-strength on the night but our strength in depth in the panel was a significant factor.

Early dominance by Conor Burke and Ryan O’Shea set the tone and up front Gary O’Connell,  Dean Shinners and Barry Fitzgibbon availed of the opportunities presented.

Three first half goals by Damian Kearney, Brian Cregan and great effort by David Macken had put us complete control by half time. Overall this was a promising start but stiffer challenges lie ahead.

Panel: Shane O’Connell,Seán Cahill,Mark Reidy,Thomas Connolly,Richard Bateman,Conor Burke,Evan Moloney,Ryan O’Shea,David Macken,Gary O’Connell, Damian Kearney, Dean Shinners,Barry Fitzgibbon, Brian Cregan, Roy Sheerin,Dara O’Farrell, Kevin Laffan,Conor Griffin,Hugh Creaton, Robert Sweeney, Jordan Ryan.
