Club Notes 23rd March

UNDER 14 FÉILE:
We played Ballybrown recently in A division of Feile hurling on a very windy day. We played with the wind in the first half. James Conheady scored a good goal and we had a few more good chances, one of which was converted by Sam Riordan.
Our backs were playing well with Rory Hannon solid in goals and well supported by Jack Dalton, Padraig Byrnes and Eoghan O’Connor. We ended the first half leading 2 – 1 to 0 – 1.
All players did well in the second half against the wind but Ballybrown slowly whittled down our lead aided by the wind and the game ended in a draw.
Cathal O’Neill, Richard Murphy, Colin Coughlan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Colin Haigney, Cian Enright, Ciarán Kennedy ,Brendan Power, Chris Shanahan all did well.
The sides were still level after 10 minutes of extra time and the game probably turned on a good save by Ballybrown keeper. They finished the stronger with two well taken goals.
While we were disappointed to lose, all the team played well and we can look forward to the championship with confidence.

Our squad was Rory Hannon; Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, Eoghan O’Connor; Darragh O’Keeffe, Richard Murphy, Brendan Power; Cathal O’Neill, Chris Shanahan; Colin Haigney, Colin Coughlan, Cian Enright; James Conheady, Ciarán Kennedy, Sam Riordan; John Bourke, Fergal Egan, Rory Quirke, Barry Moore, Niall Khan, Cillian O’Brien, Rian O’Byrne, Darragh Nash.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL:
Our under 14 footballers (Kilpeacon) played in the Féíle Peil na nÓg B Quarter Final last Saturday. Their opponents were Adare and our lads came out on top by a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-3.

This was a great win for the lads against a senior football club and they will go on to play Askeaton-Ballysteen in the semi final which has been provisionally fixed for Easter Sunday 5th April in Askeaton at 11am.

UNDER 21 HURLERS:
Our under 21 hurlers, Tory Gaels, continued their good recent run as they beat Knockainey by 6-17 to 2-5 in Bruff last Sunday.
With a 2-9 to 0-3 point lead at half time, the lads drove on in the second half to claim a 24 point win.
The Crecora players were Edwin Wixted, Micheál O’Neill, Conor Burke, Tim Moloney, Evan Moloney, Liam Quirke, Tomás Connolly and Cian Leahy.
They will now play Killacolla Gaels (Bruree/Castletown-Ballyagran) next weekend who will pose a much stiffer challenge.
Time, date and venue for that game has yet to be confirmed.

End of the road for “Ring Ben”

Unfortunately it was not Ring Ben’s night on Saturday 20th March.
Another dog collided with him on the first bend and our dog crashed out.
The collision resulted in only 3 of the 6 dogs finishing in that heat

Ring Ben gave us a good run over the past few weeks and gave us a few nights out at the dogs.
Thanks to all our Club Members who “went to the dogs” to cheer on Ring Ben.
