JUNIOR HURLERS:

Our Junior A hurlers had a narrow win over St. Patrick’s in Rhebogue last Tuesday in the All County Hurling League. They have now qualified for the final of this competition with a game to spare. All eyes will now be focused on the championship which starts the end of June.

UNDER 14 HURLERS:
The Kilpeacon U14 hurlers played a league match against Murroe Boher on  10th June in Boher. On a beautiful sunny evening with a light breeze we had a good game of hurling against a good Murroe side. Kilpeacon was going for its 3rd win on the bounce before a break of a month so this was an important match to win to keep our momentum going.

Murroe had the better start going 2 points up and were well up for the game. However we settled into the game with a good point and a great goal from Cathal O’Neill. From that point on we kept control of the game until half time with more goals from Colin Coughlan, Colin Haigney and Cathal O’Neill. Colin Hagney has found his best position with a huge performance in midfield.

After half time the expected fight back duly arrived from Murroe with an early goal from a penalty and a point but we didn’t panic and with a great display from Richard Murphy at center back and from Jack Dalton at full back we kept our structure well and delivered some great ball into the forwards. Chris  Shanahan and Padraig Byrnes were also tenacious in the back line keeping our defense solid and the goals at bay. John Burke also put in a big performance around the middle third. Overall this was a super team performance with great performances across the field.
Final Score Kilpeacon 4-11 Murroe 2-6

Team:  Rory Hannon, Chris Shanahan, Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, Cathal O’Neill, Colin Coughlan, James Conheady, Richard Murphy, Cian Enright, Eoghan O’Connor, Colin Haigney,  Darragh O’Keeffe, John Bourke,  Ciaran Kennedy,  Brendan Power

Subs: Fergal Egan, Rory Quirke, Sam Riordan, Niall Khan, Cillian O’Brien, Rian O’Byrne.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALLERS:
The under 14 footballers also had a great win last week beating Drom-Broadford 7-7 to 2-2 in Crecora, getting in good match practice ahead of their trip to Wexford for the Féile which is coming up in a few weeks time. They are out once more next Wednesday against Bruff.

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS:
City Junior B Hurling League Semi Final: Patrickswell 3-11 Crecora Manister 0-9.
County Under 14 Football Championship Division 2A: Shannon Gaels 2-4 Kilpeacon 9-                                             12
County Under 14 Hurling Championship Division 1: Kilpeacon 8-13 Ahane 0-6.
City Junior B Football League Final: Ballybrown 3-7 Crecora Manister 2-8.
City Junior A Hurling League Semi Final: Na Piarsaigh 2-18 Crecora Manister 2-9.
JUNIOR B HURLERS:
Our Junior A and B hurlers both played in City league semi finals this week. On Bank Holiday Monday, our junior Bs went down to Patrickswell on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-9 in wretched conditions in Mungret. We opened positively and really should have gotten five or six scores on the board but the Well took advantage of their opportunities and went in ahead at the break by 1-4 to 2. The second half was a much more open affair and both sides got some scores before the Well hit their second goal. Our lads responded well though and brought the gap back to four points, but Patrickswell hit their last goal of the game and pulled away to record an eleven point win.
This was our junior Bs’ last game of the year as we will have no team entered in the championship.

 JUNIOR B FOOTBALLERS:
Last Thursday 4th June, our Junior B footballers played Ballybrown in the City league final in Portland Park in Ballinacurra. The two teams had previously drawn in the round robin stage of the competition and and so there wasn’t much between the two teams. We were unlucky to come out the wrong side of a two point defeat with the 3-7 to 2-8 scoreline favouring the Clarina men. The sides will meet again in championship next month.

JUNIOR A HURLERS:
Our junior As played Na Piarsaigh in their City League semi final last Saturday 6th June in Rathbane. Our lads were slow to settle and Na Piarsaigh had five or six points on the board before we registered our first score. The City men were the stronger and more dominant team throughout the first half and picked off their scores easily as they went in 2-10 to 0-2 ahead at the break. Our lads came out far stronger in the second half with Stephen McDermott and Mike McCormack getting some lovely scores as well as two goals from Mike Gammell. Overall however, it was a disappointing performance and the final score of 2-18 to 2-9 in favour of the Sky Blues rounded off a bad week for our junior hurlers and footballers. Our lads now prepare for the start of the championship in three weeks time.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL:
We played the 4th round of the U14 football championship on Bank Holiday Monday back against Shannon Gaels in Ballyhahill. After our defeat the previous week, the squad were anxious to get back to winning ways. Despite the long journey our lads settled early and a couple of goals from Colin Coughlan set us on our way to a comprehensive win. Colin went on to complete a hat-trick as did James Conheady. Despite the heavy rain early in the day, conditions were good for the game and we played some excellent football on the night. It was good to see Joshua Skehan Fitzgerald back from the injury he suffered in the first round of hurling championship and he had a commanding game in defence. Scores were shared throughout the team including goals from Cillian O’Brien, Rory Hannon and Cian Enright to leave a final score of 9-12 to 2-4. They now play Dromcollogher-Broadford on Monday 8th June at 6.30pm.

UNDER 14 HURLING:
Our under 14 hurlers made it two wins in a row in Division 1 of the County Championship after beating Ahane last Wednesday night 3rd June. The final scoreline finshed with a comfortable win for us against the Castleconnell men with a 8-13 to 0-6 win. They now play Murroe-Boher next Wednesday 8th June in Beary’s Cross, Boher @ 6.15pm.

County Under 14 Football Championship Division 2A Round 4: Kilpeacon 2-7 St. Senan’s 4-4.
County Under 14 Hurling Championship Division 1 Round 2: Adare 3-2 Kilpeacon 3-4.

UNDER 14 HURLERS:

Kilpeacon u14 Hurlers (Crecora Manister and Fedamore) played Adare in second round of U14 Division 1 Championship. We started with the aid of a slight breeze and while we scored an early point from Cian Enright, Adare responded with a good goal. It took us time to settle but once we competed for the ball we got on top in many positions. We delivered good ball into the forwards and while we missed some good chances we scored two good goals from James Conheady and Colin Haigney following good work from Jack Dalton, Chris Shanahan, Ciaran Kennedy and Brendan Power.
We led at the interval by 2 – 4 to 1 – 1 but knew Adare would come back at us in the second half. While Adare had a few chances our defence held firm with Rory Hannon producing a good save.
We replied with an excellent goal, whipped first time to the net by Brendan Power. Adare showed their character at this stage and applied more pressure and were rewarded with a goal and then got a penalty which they converted.
The match was now back in the balance and while we were fortunate a good Adare shot went over the bar, we held out for a good win on a score line of 3 – 4 to 3 – 2.
This was a good win especially as we were missing some players.
Our next game is on Wednesday 3rd June in Crecora at 7.15 pm versus Ahane.
All support welcome. Our Squad versus Adare: Rory Hannon, Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, Fergal Egan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Richard Murphy, Eoghan O’Connor, Cathal O’Neill, Chris Shanahan, Sam Riordan, Colin Haigney, Brendan Power, Ciaran Kennedy, James Conheady, Cian Enright, Niall Khan, Rian O’Byrne.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALLERS:
Our U14 footballers played host to St Senans last week and we suffered our first defeat of the year. This was an entertaining and close game with fine play by both teams and ended on a scoreline of 4 – 4 to 2 – 7. We played into a strong breeze in the first half and got off to a terrible start by conceding a goal in the first minute.
Despite the breeze we had plenty of possession and chances and scored 4 points in the first half from Cathal O’Neill, Colin Coughlan (2) and Cian Enright to leave the half time score at 2 – 4 to 0 – 4.
We started the second half strongly and added 2 points to narrow the gap. However St Senans broke up the other end and added a goal. We replied with a penalty from Darragh Foley but conceded a 4th goal soon after to increase the gap again.
Our lads kept going forward in an effort to maintain their unbeaten record and a goal from James Conheady and a point from Cian Enright reduced the deficit to a goal.
We had one last chance to salvage a draw but the ball just shaved the post. This was a disappointing result but the players showed great spirit and determination all the way to the final whistle and sure they will bounce back.
