Following one of the greatest GAA comebacks of recent times, Crecora Junior Footballers have qualified for the Junior B County Final following a pulsating win over a heartbroken Camogue Rovers side in Croom on Saturday last.
Camogue played with the elements in the first half and in the opening third, both sides were well matched, trading scores and being level at 4 points apiece. Our scores came from David Macken (2), Micheál O’Neill and Cormac Flanagan.
Several missed scoring opportunities were to prove costly for Crecora as Camogue went on to score 1.4 without reply, giving them a seven point advantage at the break.
A super save by keeper Shane O’Connell prevented further damage to our chances. To compound our situation, in the first fifteen minutes of the second half, Camogue added four further points to a single Crecora reply through D.Macken. This left ten points between the sides with only twelve minutes remaining.
The revival began with an excellently taken Cormac Flanagan goal. Spirits lifted and Crecora were now in complete ascendancy and sought to close the gap. A flurry of scores by M. O’Neill(0.2), Conor Burke(0.2), Seán Fitzgerald (0.1) and Mike McCormack(0.1) brought us within a point. Conor Burke scored the late equaliser and captain Mike McCormack scored a super last gasp winning point.
Overall, against a very experienced and skilled Camogue Rovers team, this was a real battling performance where the panel strength came into play through solid defending, a good work ethic by all and the introduction of Darragh Skelly, David Cregan and John Buckley having a significant role in the victory.
Next up in the County Final are our near neighbours Fedamore.
Hopefully you will all turn out next Sunday 15th November @ 2pm in Croom to support our team , bring your colours and lets all get behind this team next weekend.
