Calling all Volunteers for Clean Up

We had a huge turnout of volunteers last year for the Team Limerick Clean up and after a great day’s team work the roadsides along the Crecora and Manister area were spotless.

Due to the huge success of the TLC initiative in 2015 the event is being sponsored again in 2016  by the JP McManus Benevolent Fund.

A group has been registered for the Crecora Manister area and we’ll meet up at Crecora Community Centre on Good Friday 25th March between 9am and 9.30am to distribute bags and gloves to the volunteers.

If you are interested in taking part please contact Paul Foster on 0868500303 or by email to tlc@crecoramanistergaa.com to inform us of the stretch of road you will be cleaning and the number of volunteers that will be with you. This will give us an idea of the number of bags and gloves to get.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL:
Our U14 campaign got off to a winning start last Sunday in the Feile B football competition against Adare in Mick Neville Park. This was our first game in defence of the cup which we won last year and eventually led to a wonderful feile experience in Wexford. The game was played on the astro pitch so the conditions were ideal and both teams provided a skilful entertaining game with some fine scores by both sides. Watched by a big support including Eoghan O’Connor who is recovering from injury and captained by Rory Hannan, we got off to a good start and strong play from our midfielders Darragh O’Keefe and Patrick Dolphin got us on the front foot early. Patrick got our first score from a free and soon after Fergal Egan made a surging run past a couple of defenders and sent a powerful shot to the net to give us an early lead. Patrick added another free midway through the first half to extend the lead. Our defence and midfield were driving us forward and we were unlucky not to add more scores with shots against the bar and a rasping shot from Sam Riordan that hit the post. The pressure finally paid off with a poacher’s goal by Rian O’Byrne after good pressure on the defence by Nial Khan and John O’Donnell. Adare came more into the game as the half wore on and added a free to make the score 2-2 to 0-1 at half time. It was important to start strong in the second half and our midfielders combined well again to add a point early in the second half. This was followed by another free and a goal by Patrick which put us in a strong position heading in the latter part of the game. Adare then had their period of dominance but our defence battled strongly to keep opportunities to a minimum. They added a number of points but ultimately time ran out and the goals proved the difference between the 2 teams as we ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-6. Team on the day was David Bourke, Luke Bovenizer, Rory Hannan, Jack Duggan, Brandon Nash, John Bourke, Ciaran Kennedy, Darragh O’Keefe, Patrick Dolphin, Fergal Egan, Sam Riordan, Chris Shanahan, Rian O’Byrne, Nial Khan, John O’Donnell, Chris Lyons, Conor Hannan, Darragh Walsh. Unfortunately, we bowed out of the Féile with a 3-8 to 2-7 defeat to Cappamore in the quarter final with a battling performance against a strong Cappamore team.

UNDER 21 HURLING:
Our under 21 hurlers ground out a deserving win last Sunday 6th March against Garryspillane in the South B Semi Final. The Tory Gaels ran out winners on a 2-9 to 2-7 win despite a second half comeback from ‘The Bouncers’. Team: Mark O’Kelly (Croom); Kevin Laffan (Croom), Tim Moloney (Crecora), Cian Leahy (Crecora); Gary O’Connell (Crecora), Mark Reidy (Croom), Evan Moloney (Crecora); Daragh O’Farrell (Croom), Eoghan Cregan (Croom); Liam Quirke (Crecora), Michael Bateman (Crecora), Ryan O’Shea (Croom); Shane O’Connell (Crecora), Killian Rea (Crecora), Seán Cahill (Croom). Next up is the South final versus Knockainey. The time, date and venue for this game is still to be confirmed but updates will follow. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

LIMERICK TEAM:
Well done to the Limerick hurlers who picked up a reasonably comfortable 1-19 to 0-14 win over Offaly in Tullamore in Round Three of the Hurling League 1B. Unfortunately our footballers were unlucky to be pipped by table toppers Kildare in Newbridge by 1-11 to 1-10. Next up for Limerick is a double header in The Gaelic Grounds next Saturday 12th March. The hurlers play Laois at 5 while the footballers welcome Westmeath at 7.
