Match Report – Junior A Premier

Crecora Manister          1:17

Tournafulla                   1:18

The second round of the Premier Junior Hurling championship was played on Sunday and we were in action against Tournafulla at the Feenagh Kilmeedy grounds. We were hoping to build on the point we gained in the first round. The previous encounter between the sides resulted in a one point win for us so we knew it would be a close game and so it proved.

There was very little between the sides in the first half as the teams traded points. We had 5 different players on the scoresheet in the first half with scores from Jack Dalton, Richard Murphy, Conor Kirby, Cathal O’Neill and Edwin Wixted giving us a slim half time lead on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-7. We were unfortunate to lose Rory Hannan through injury just on HT whistle. Tournafulla turned the deficit over early in the second half and went on to dominate for a spell. They added a goal to stretch their lead to 8 points. At that point our lads dug deep and started to move the ball with greater urgency. Points from Cathal,  the recently introduced Niall Conheady and Richard edged us slowly but surely back into the game. The introduction of fresh legs in Niall and Oisin O’Byrne also contributed as we brought the game back level with a cleverly worked goal from Richard when he gathered a cross field ball and skipped past the defence to plant the ball in the net. There was an exchange of points again with Edwin adding a vital score as both teams looked for the decisive score. Chances came at both ends but it was Tournafulla who added the final score. The final whistle sounded soon after. This was a cruel finish for the team who had given so much and recovered from a very difficult position to put themselves in contention to win the game. They have a break now for football championship and will be back in Feenagh in 2 weeks time to face Monagea in the 3rd Round. Squad Ger Kennedy, Rory Hannan, Colm Parnell, Tim Moloney, David Rickard, Thomas Shanahan, James Conheady, Conor Kirby Cathal O’Neill, Mark Shanahan, Jack Dalton, Edwin Wixted, Richard Murphy, Padraig Byrnes, Rian O’Byrne, Sean Keyes, Ned O’Meara, Niall Conheady, Oisin O’Byrne, Ciaran Cusack, Damien Kearney, Mark O’Keefe, Ciaran Humphreys.

Intermediate Football Result

Crecora Manister          1:08

Newcastle West                       2:07

Our Intermediate Footballers, taking part in the Griffin Coaches Intermediate County Championship for the 5th consecutive year suffered a disappointing 2 point defeat to Newcastle West on Saturday evening 19th July in a wet Ballingarry. We opened the game very well with 3 unanswered points in the first 10 minutes. However, NCW clawed their way back into the game with their own 4 unanswered scores and then we traded points to go in at the break level on 5 points each. Again, the opening exchanges in the second half were in Crecora Manister’s favour including a well taken goal to give us a 4 point cushion going into the last 15 minutes but credit to NCW, they kept going and forced some good turnovers to take 2 goals with their second goal coming in injury time to put them 2 points up. Despite some last  efforts Crecora Manister just could not get anymore one the board. Our players produced some really good play and a little bit of tightening up will give us confidence to take on all challenges in the coming rounds. Congratulations to NCW on their win.

Team on the night: Stephen Keating, David Macken, Colm Parnel, Tim Moloney, Patrick Dolphin, Mark Shanahan, Jack O’Donovan, Stephen O’Donovan, Jack Dalton, Donnacha Connolly, Cormac Flanagan, Ciaran Cusack, Rory Hannon, Richard Murphy, Mike McCormack, Conor Kirby, David Rickard, Padraig Byrnes, Michael Fitzgerald.

Minor Football Result

Crecora Manister South Liberties          1:21

Patrickswell                                          3:21

Our championship campaign started on  Wednesday evening away to a good Patrickswells team who had one match under their belt. The home side got off to a good start with 2 quick points but after that it was nip and tuck with both sides exchanging points as the half went on. Patrickswell scored a goal and took  a three point lead. We had a couple of goal chances and took one. Patrickswell raised another green flag before another run of points for both sides to leave the  half time score  Patrickswell 2 13 CMSL 1 11. We got off to a good start in the second half to get within 2 points before the Patrickswell got in for a third goal. It was nip and tuck for the rest of the game and we were unlucky not to take some goal chances which would have given us a win. Final score Patrickswell 3:21 CMSL 1:21.

Match Report – Junior Hurlers

Crecora Manister 1-22

Monega              0-19

Our Premier Junior Hurlers were back at the grounds of Feenagh Kilmeedy GAA last Saturday evening for the 3rd round of the championsip versus Monagea. We were hoping to atone for the narrow defeat 2 weeks prior at the same venue.

The lads were determined from the off and we got off to great start with points from Edwin Wixted, Jack Dalton and Conor Kirby. We added further scores by Thomas Shanahan and another from Conor before Monagea registered their first score. We extended our lead to 7 by the midway point of the half with scores from Niall Conheady and Cathal O’Neill. Monagea added a couple of frees to minimise the gap and from this point to the half time whistle the 2 teams traded scores with Edwin, Cathal and Rian O’Byrne adding to our tally to leave the half time score at 0-15 to 0-10 in our favour. We started the second half with a converted free but Monagea kept in touching distance. Niall Conheady made a breakthrough and was bearing down on goal before he was tripped. This resulted in a second yellow for the defender and a penalty which Cathal converted to stretch the lead back out to 6.  Our defence was under pressure as Monagea went in search of a goal to get them back in the game but Ger Kennedy, Colm Parnell, Tim Moloney and Rory Hannan defended resolutely to keep our goal intact. Despite that the lead was back to 3 heading into the closing stages but we stepped up a gear and scores from Rory Hannan, Cathal and Chris Shanahan ensured we streched out our lead to claim victory on a scoreline of 1-22 to 0-19. Next game up is Friday 29th v Askeaton Ballysteen Kilcornan in Adare. The team would welcome your support.

Squad Ger Kennedy, Rory Hannan, Colm Parnelll, Tim Moloney, David Rickard, Thomas Shanahan, James Conheady, Conor Kirby Cathal O’Neill, Mark Shanahan, Jack Dalton, Edwin Wixted, Niall Conheady, Richard Murphy, Padraig Byrnes, Sean Keyes, Rian O’Byrne, Oisin O’Byrne, Damien Kearney, Ciaran Cusack, Mark O’Keefe, Sean Malone, Chris Shanahan.
