Overall we had a really good game

Our U14 hurlers played a friendly match against Parteen on Saturday 28th March in Parteen. Once again the coaches wanted to try out guys in different positions. John Burke played very well in a new midfield role and Cathal O’Neill  started at Full Forward and Dara Nash and Rory Quirke in the full back line.

Rory Hannon played well in goals and is really improving in a specialist position.

There was some really good interplay between team mates with stick and hand passing to guys in better positions. Kilpeacon got off to a great start banging in a number of early goals to give the team a solid half time lead.

Good play by Richard Murphy interlinking with other forwards meant we continued to add to the score sheet although Parteen put up a much stronger show in the second half getting 2 more goals.

Guys like Fergal, Darragh and Rian all worked hard for the team with some nice touches by Eoghan and Chris.

Overall we had a really good game on a fine pitch in Parteen.

Final score 7 – 5  to 3 – 5. Team: 1.Rory Hannon 2. Dara Nash 3. Padraig Byrnes 4 Rory Quirke 5. Eoghan O’Connor 6. Colin Coughlan 7. Chris Shanahan 8.John Bourke 9. James Conheady 10. Sam Riordan 11. Richard Murphy 12 Darragh O’Keeffe. 13. Fergal Egan 14. Cathal O’Neill 15. Rian O’Byrne.

U14 hurlers – challenge match report

Our U14 hurlers played a friendly match against Monaleen on Thursday 26th March in Crecora. We had guys playing in some new positions which was great for them to get experience in different positions. It also gave the coaches a chance to give some deserved game time to the Subs from the Feile game and to some of the younger members of the panel like Dara Nash and Rian O’Byrne.

Monaleen raced into an early 2 goal lead but Cathal O’Neill got us back in the match with a great goal and a point.
Jack Dalton hurled a lot of ball from the back with James Conheady prominent and hard working in mid field. We went in a point or two down at half time.
In the second half we worked some great scores through  clever use of the ball and good stick passes to players in better positions. It was nip and tuck throughout the half with Sam Riordan featuring well in the scoring stakes.

Padraig Byrnes also stood up well and Rory Hannon was very solid in goals.
Chris Shanahan worked hard around the middle ably supported by others. Cian Enright scored a good point and Rory Quirke worked very hard for the team.

Overall we had a really good close game with the final result being a draw 3 – 8 to 4 – 5.
Thanks to Pat Quirke for refereeing.

Club Notes 23rd March

UNDER 14 FÉILE:
We played Ballybrown recently in A division of Feile hurling on a very windy day. We played with the wind in the first half. James Conheady scored a good goal and we had a few more good chances, one of which was converted by Sam Riordan.
Our backs were playing well with Rory Hannon solid in goals and well supported by Jack Dalton, Padraig Byrnes and Eoghan O’Connor. We ended the first half leading 2 – 1 to 0 – 1.
All players did well in the second half against the wind but Ballybrown slowly whittled down our lead aided by the wind and the game ended in a draw.
Cathal O’Neill, Richard Murphy, Colin Coughlan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Colin Haigney, Cian Enright, Ciarán Kennedy ,Brendan Power, Chris Shanahan all did well.
The sides were still level after 10 minutes of extra time and the game probably turned on a good save by Ballybrown keeper. They finished the stronger with two well taken goals.
While we were disappointed to lose, all the team played well and we can look forward to the championship with confidence.

Our squad was Rory Hannon; Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, Eoghan O’Connor; Darragh O’Keeffe, Richard Murphy, Brendan Power; Cathal O’Neill, Chris Shanahan; Colin Haigney, Colin Coughlan, Cian Enright; James Conheady, Ciarán Kennedy, Sam Riordan; John Bourke, Fergal Egan, Rory Quirke, Barry Moore, Niall Khan, Cillian O’Brien, Rian O’Byrne, Darragh Nash.

End of the road for “Ring Ben”

Unfortunately it was not Ring Ben’s night on Saturday 20th March.
Another dog collided with him on the first bend and our dog crashed out.
The collision resulted in only 3 of the 6 dogs finishing in that heat

Ring Ben gave us a good run over the past few weeks and gave us a few nights out at the dogs.
Thanks to all our Club Members who “went to the dogs” to cheer on Ring Ben.
