Match Reports
Our Hurlers were in action last Saturday night in the 4rd round City West Intermediate League game away to Feenagh Kilmeedy. We suffered our first defeat in the league campaign on a scoreline of 3-21 to 3-18. This was an extraordinary game with a fine display by Feenagh Kilmeedy in the first half matched by a stirring comeback by our lads in the second half. We settled into the game quite early and points from James Conheady and Rian Byrne helped us to a 4 points to 1 lead after about 10 mins. Feenagh Kilmeedy came into the game strongly at this point and controlled the game from here to the short whistle. They scored 2 goals and a number of long range points and we faced a deficit of 17 points at half time on a scoreline of 2-17 to 0-06. The lads gathered themselves at half time and started to get a foothold in the game early in the second half. We added the first 6 scores of the second half including 2 goals from Rian O’Byrne. Conor Kirby was quick to get involved in the game on his introduction and points from Conor, James, Edwin Wixted and Mark Shanahan helped us make further inroads into the sizeable lead. Chris Shanahan added another goal and momentum had swung our way. We reduced the deficit to 3 but Feenagh Kilmeedy added a breakaway goal to stretch the lead out to 6 again. We continued to press, added 3 more points and were pushing for an equalising goal but time ran out on the gallant comeback effort by the team. Another highlight of the game was to see the return of Padraig Byrnes to the field of play after a long spell out with injury. Last game in the league stage is in 2 weeks time v St Kierans in Crecora

We’ve had a strong start to our U13 and U14 football campaign. The 13s had a gutsy home win over Mungret St Paul’s 1-8 to 1-6 on 3 April with our scores coming from Fionn Kennedy 1-5 and 0-1 each from Conor Browne, Daniel Barry and David Cronin. Our second U13 match was on 29 April when we beat Pallasgreen 2-10 to 0-2. Our scores came from Conor Hickey 2-0, Tommy Keyes 0-4, Conor Browne 0-2, Daniel Barry 0-2, Stephen Cronin 0-1 and Sean Cobbe 0-1. These two wins have us top of the U13 League Division 3A table with 4 matches remaining.

In between, on 18 April, we had our first U14 Championship match, a comprehensive 3-13 to 0-6 away win over neighbours Croom. Top scorers were Fionn Kennedy with 0-8 from mid-field and Conor Browne 0-5. It was great to see the full forward line chipping in with a goal apiece: Adam McKinley, Will Shea and David Cronin.
