Club Notes 31st May

It’s been a very busy last couple of weeks with every age-group in both hurling  / football and camogie in full flow both training and matches. It is great to go back to the GAA field in Crecora any evening both during the week and at weekends as there is always one or multiple teams training and using the facilities including numerous matches each week in all codes and age groups.

On the GAA front , all our underage teams are actively training and playing both challenge matches and Blitz’s and numbers are very good turning up to training and matches. There are a great number of coaches working across these age groups , doing great work with the kids . It is very important for parents to encourage your child and to help them practice at home every evening . They say 10 to 15 minutes a day practicing rising the ball,  striking,  kicking football, catching etc will improve them no end. Playing sport is the same as school work. You learn the skills in school and then do your homework every evening. In sport , you learn the skills in training and then you practice every evening to become a better player and improve your skills. Please try to support all these teams at matches and support the coaches and all their hard and voluntary work. And the best support you can give them is by offering to help , be it to assist in the training sessions , help at matches by putting out the flags , putting up and taking down the nets , offering to wash jerseys . don’t wait to be asked. Offer to help and you will feel even more part of the team and the wider GAA community.

Under 14
On the competitive front our U14 have played two football matches so far. This is a young team with massive potential and while results have not exactly gone their way to date , they are an inspiration to any team with their commitment and determination to keep going no matter what the score. Nearly everyone turns up to training week on week and they continue to improve every week. They will have their first hurling match this Wednesday evening , a home game versus Kilmallock with a 6:15pm throw in so please come along to support this great bunch of players and coaches.

Under 16
U16’s in both hurling and football are training away with matches not resuming until after junior cert exams. Its great to still see good numbers at training even in the run up to the exams and with this commitment and both teams playing at top level Div 1 for the summer this training is vital for the next few weeks

Minor
Our Minor team are like the U16’s training away while on a break for Leaving cert from matches. Full program of matches will resume end June , start of July.

Junior
Our junior hurling and football teams are continuing to train away with some matches and some good results to date. A lot of the extended panel are currently facing exams but hopefully training away in preparation for matches later in the summer.

Limerick Camogie
Congratulations to all involved in Limerick camogie on their recent Munster Final success against a good cork outfit and for Crecora camogie and the community to be represented so well on this squad with players and coach is a fantastic achievement so well done to all involved.

U15 hurlers win Limerick Super 10s Final

Our U15’s played Div 1 Hurling and narrowly missed out on reaching the county Div 1 final to a very strong Ballyhoura Gaels team , however they recently competed in a Super 10’s hurling tournament in Limerick and won that so they now go on to represent both club and county at the Munster Finals of this tournament on June 10th in Mallow.

This is a huge achievement for the players and Club. It’s not very often any player gets to represent themselves and their club in a Munster tournament so they deserve great appreciation for their efforts to date.

Club Notes 5th April

OUR CLUB MEN REPRESENTING OUR COUNTY
Paul Collins and Karl Maloney have been picked on the Limerick minor football panel for 2017. Karl has been named as Limerick Minor Football captain for the 2017 season .

This is a massive achievement for Karl himself , his family and Crecora Manister GAA club.  Karl has always shown his commitment to his club first and foremost , has always been available to play club games throughout the age-groups and his attitude and commitment at training and matches has progressed to County level and has been recognised to the extent of Karl being awarded the Limerick captaincy .

For a Junior club like Crecora Manister who do have aspirations and goals to move up the grades in the coming years it just shows that you don’t have to be in a senior club to be recognised and rewarded as a player.
Our club is very proud of both Karel and Paul and we wish them well on Wednesday week V Waterford.

CON AND ANNIE KIRBY PUPPY DOG STAKES
Crecora Manister’s dog in the nominators competition of the Con and Annie Kirby puppy stakes “Drive On Tipp” has progressed to the final of this massive race – the richest race in Europe for dogs of this class.
The Kirby family have long been associated with our GAA club and its great that our club has a runner in the final.

The final is on this coming Saturday 8th April at Limerick Greyhound Stadium. We would ask as many as possible from the club to attend, show your support on the night, wear the club colours, bring the kids and roar on “Drive on Tipp” etc.

It would be great to have a big turnout from the Crecora and Manister community on the night.

JUNIOR HURLERS
Our Junior Hurlers had a team building session last weekend in Cork, where they played a match against the local Glen Rovers club and then attended the League quarter final on Sunday.  They start their League matches next Tuesday at home to Adare.

LIMERICK CLUB DRAW
We again have over 200 members in the Limerick Club draw and many thanks to all for supporting this as it is a major source of funds for our club.
If you are interested in joining for the remainder of the year you can still do so, just contact one of the coaches or a member of the committee.

KILPEACON U15 HURLERS
Kilpeacon U15 recorded an opening round win in the All County Div 1 U15 Hurling Championship against a strong Southside Gaels outfit on a scoreline of 1 -11 to 2 – 3, a 4 point win. Southside took the first score of the game with a good point, but Kilpeacon came back with a great ball into the forwards, Sam Riordan took on the defence and was pulled back winning a penalty which Cathal O Neill dispatched with power and conviction.
The rest of the game ebbed and flowed with some great movement and interplay from all the Kilpeacon players, working the ball out from the backs, spotting players in space and kept the score board ticking over. In fairness to Southside Gaels they never gave up and a couple of goals kept them in touch but it was the team work and effort of all the Kilpeacon players that won out on the day.
Next up is a home game against Murroe Boher on April 19th.
Team on the Night: Rory Hannon, Jack Duggan, Colm O’Riordan, Stephen McPartlin, Chris Shanahan, Darragh O’Keeffe, Aidan Walker, John Burke, Cathal O’Neill, Sam Riordan, Callum Hedderman, Fergal Egan, Ciaran Kennedy, Conor Hannon, John O’Donnell, Rian O’Byrne, Jamie Slater, Robbie Slater.
