Junior Hurlers defeat Mungret in 2nd round of City League

Our Junior hurlers played Mungret in the 2nd round of the City Hurling League on Saturday May 10th in winter conditions on what was a very good Mungret pitch for the rain that fell.

We played with the wind in the opening half and got a great start when Mike Gammell goaled with our first attack.      We continued to dominate possession and added some more points through Brian Molone, Brian Relihan, Rob Hourigan and a Gar Sheehan goal set us up nicely at half time.

At the end of the 1st half we lost Niall Carmody through injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

In the 2nd half it was our turn to face the elements and some good defending coupled with great work at midfield by Mike McCormack kept us on the front foot and we closed the game out well with Ger Kelliher, Brian Moloney with points and a 2nd Gar Sheehan goal.

Michael O’ Neill made his first start at adult level and he can be very pleased with his hours work with Damien Kearney again coming on and these young lads are vital as our season continues.

We lined out as follows:

S Keating, P Walsh, N Moloney, D O’Connor, M O’Neill,  P O’Sullivan, N Carmody, C Scully, M McCormack, S Quinn,  B Relihan,  R Hourigan , G Sheehan, B Moloney, M Gammell,. Subs R Kelliher, D Kearney, G Kelliher.

Scór na bPáistí 2014 took place in L.I.T. on Thursday 1st May. Crecora Primary School was very well represented on the night competing in six of the seven events, coming 1st in the Figure Dancing and 2nd in both the Instrumental Music & Solo Singing.

A big congratulations to all the competitors who represented Crecora Primary School with pride.  Also to the mentors Norah O’Connor & Paula Dillon for all their hard work in preparing the children.  To Catherine Tobin,  Principal of Crecora Primary School for allowing the use of the school’s facilities and to the parents & families for the huge support on the night, where participation & enjoyment were the real winners.

Those competing were not only representing the school but also Crecora Manister GAA Club as most are current players on the juvenile hurling & camogie teams, so no doubt they will go on to represent Crecora Manister  GAA Club in junior & senior Scór competitions in the coming years.

Crecora were quick out of the blocks and made a blistering start and continued to set the pace for the entire game with a passion and hunger for the game that was great to witness.

Early goals from Shane O’Connell and a good goal from Neil Heffernan settled the nerves and Crecora drove on with fine points from Shane O’Connell (6pts) Michael Bateman (1pt) and Conor Kirby (1pt).  Conor also gave a super pass into Shane to set up another goal for him to leave the Halftime score Crecora 3 : 08 Glenroe 03 points.

The lads took a few minutes to get going in the second half but then continued in the same vain as the first with a super individual goal from Cian Leahy and fantastic points from Karl Moloney, Mark Shanahan (3pts) and more from Conor, Michael (2pts),  Shane and Cian.

Our back line worked hard to make sure that scores were limited for Glenroe and big performances came from the Connolly brothers Tomas and Donnacha and the Shannahan brothers Mark and Tomas. Paraic O’Neill and Evan Keogh were solid in the backs and Jack Dalton and Richard Murphy did well when they came on

Yet another solid hurling performance from the Crecora lads  where again a quick scoring start was made with a fine point from Conor Kirby and added to with lovely point scores from Karl Moloney and Shane O’Connell which settled the team. Edwin Wixted scored 2 points from frees, Shane added another and Tomas Connolly scored a super point he worked so hard to get and his determination epitomized the spirit we have in this team.

Our back line worked hard allowing Knockainey only to score 2 points.

So the half time score was 7points to Crecora and 2 points to Knockainey.

In the second half Shane added another 2 points to his tally with great support from Tomas and Evan Keogh. Edwin also bagged another 2 points and Michael Bateman slotted over a fine point.

Conor got a super point from almost the sideline after good work from Shane O’Connor and Cian Leahy soloed up from the backs to finish the scoring off with a well taken goal.

Again our backs were very strong with huge performances from Evan, Tomas, Mark Shanahan and Paraic O’Neill.

Special mention must be given to our younger players Richard Murphy, Donnacha Connolly and Shane O’Connor who really showed that they are a force to be reckoned with.

The final score was Crecora 01 : 13 Knockainey  01 : 02
