UNDER 14 FOOTBALLERS:

The U14s of Kilpeacon (Crecora Manister and Fedamore) travelled to Mick Neville Park Rathkeale on Sunday to play Ahane in the final of the Feile B football.
Both teams wore change strips due to clash of colours. We lined out in the historical Manister colours of blue and white.
A minutes silence was observed before the game in memory of Karen Buckley, whose mother is a native of Limerick.
We got off to a flying start in the game and an early point from Jack Dalton settled the team. This was followed soon after by a goal from Colin Coughlan.
Colin added a point midway through the first half to extend the lead to 1 – 2 to 0 – 0. Ahane came more into the game and only a great blockdown by Philip O’Toole prevented a certain goal.
Eoghan O’Connor was playing well in a sweeping role around the 45. Sam Riordan in goals was called on to make important saves. At the other end we had a number of chances to extend our lead but failed to convert them.
There was no further scores in the half. Ahane as they did in last years final came back strongly in the second half. They dominated possession and territory and added 2 points midway through second half to half the deficit.
We were struggling to get the ball forward at this stage and our defence was under considerable pressure but they stood strong as they did in the semi-final and some timely tackles from Colin Haigney and Joshua Skehan Fitzgerald kept the scoring opportunities to a minimum.
Ahane added 2 more points from close in frees to leave the minimum between the teams. At this stage the game was in the balance and the last play of the game resulted in a high ball into the goalmouth area which had our hearts in our mouths.
Richard Murphy rose highest to gather the ball and drove out in possession to win a vital free.
Soon after the referee blew the whistle to end the contest and signal the start of the celebrations.
Darragh Foley accepted the cup on behalf of Kilpeacon to the delight of our large group of supporters.
Congratulations to all of the squad and to coaches Ger Riordan, Jack Dalton, Caimin Dolphin, Noel Kennedy and Paddy O’Neill for all the effort they have put in to date.
The players have battled through 4 competitive rounds of football in all sorts of weather conditions and earned the right to represent Limerick in Feile.
All can now look forward to a trip to the Feile tournament which will be held in the South East (Wexford\Carlow\Wickow) in the last weekend in June.
The Askamore-Kilrush club outside Gorey in North Wexford have been drawn to host us.
Squad last Sunday was Sam Riordan, Padraig Byrnes, Joshua Skehan Fitzgerald, Eoghan O’Connor, Colin Haigney, Philip O’Toole, Patrick Dolphin, Cathal O’Neill, Richard Murphy, Cian Enright, Jack Dalton, Killian Scanlon, Darragh Foley, Colin Coughlan, Brendan Power, John Bourke, Chris Shanahan, Michael Maher, Ciaran Kennedy, Darragh O’Keefe, Fergal Egan, Cillian O’Brien, Rian O’Byrne, Stephen McPartlin.
