Minor Hurling
Kilpeacon played Garryspillane in Crecora in the Premier Minor Hurling Championship. Despite having two injured players we had a good win over last year’s county champions.
We played Ballybrown in Fedamore on Friday 23rd. We played with a light breeze in the first half and were winning most of the 50:50 balls. Our full back line including Jack Dalton and Padraig Byrnes were holding firm with good assistance on the wing from James Conheady. Richard Murphy was winning good ball in midfield and with Cathal O’Neill and Rory Hannon in the half forward line we were getting good ball into Brendan Power, Sam Riordan and Chris Shanahan in the full forward line.

Brendan and Sam got good points from play followed by a goal from Sam and points from Cathal and Rory. Brendan then got a goal that saw us lead 2 – 8 to 0 – 5 at half time. Ballybrown , who had won all their games prior to this, upped their game in the second half. We were now under pressure but the backs were holding firm. Ballybrown then got a goal and midway through the half they got a deflected goal to level the match.

Despite Ballybrown edging in front, we then showed our battling qualities. Cathal scored a free and Brendan scored a good opportunist goal to put us back in front. Ballybrown scored again to level matters and deep into injury time we were unfortunate not to win a free that probably would have won the match.
The match ended in a draw on a score line of Kilpeacon 3 – 12 Ballybrown 2 – 15.
Well done to all the players in a fine game of hurling.

The panel on the night was Jamie Slater, Colm O’Riordan, Jack Dalton, Padraig Byrnes, Colin Haigney, Patrick Byrne, James Conheady, Richard Murphy, Darragh O’Keeffe, Cathal O’Neill, John Bourke, Rory Hannon, Brendan Power, Sam Riordan, Chris Shanahan, Ciaran Kennedy, Fergal Egan, Rian O’Byrne, Darragh Hogan, John O’Donnell.
