Junior A Hurling
Our junior A hurlers made it back-to-back wins in group 3 of the county championship with a comfortable 2-20 to 1-9 win over Old Christians in Fedamore last Saturday 18th September.
Old Christians were the quicker to settle and we found ourselves 0-3 to 0-0 down to the city men after the opening 5 minutes of play.
We soon found our groove with a superb Donnacha Connolly effort from the sideline getting us off the mark.
Some fine points from Cathal O’Neill and a Conor Kirby goal saw us take a 1-5 to 0-4 lead to the water break.
Michael Bateman and Darach Skelly were starting to dominate in the half forward line and Evan Moloney and Rory Hannan were doing trojan work defensively.
Some more points from Michael Bateman and Cathal left the score at halftime 1-9 to 0-7 in our favour.
We pressed home our advantage in the third quarter as our superior fitness began to tell with points from Cathal, Conor Kirby, Michael Bateman and Karl Moloney pushing our lead out to 1-17 to 0-9 at the second half water break.
Old Christians were then handed a lifeline as they were awarded a dubious penalty which they duly converted.
However this was to be the city men’s last score of the game as Cathal O’Neill rattled in a goal for us with Edwin Wixted and Brendan Power adding points in the closing stages to leave the final score 2-20 to 1-9.
