GAA Notes Underage

It has been a busy couple of weeks across all age-groups with county playoff’s and Semi finals being contested by a number of teams.
This past week alone our U16 camogie girls were unlucky in their county final against Newcastlewest.
Our Minor football squad came out just short in their county Semi final against a very strong Ballylanders outfit and our u14 footballers and Feile representatives qualified for their final with a strong second half display against Ballyhoura Gales. They will meet Askeaton in the final in a couple of weeks.
Our U14 hurlers lost out in a thrilling Div 1 shield semi final to NAP.
Our U13 Hurlers play Newcastlewest on Wednesday evening (23rd Sept) with the winners of this match qualifying for the U13 County final.

U14 Notes
Last week was a busy week for the U14s with semi-finals in hurling and football. First up on Monday night were the hurlers who played at home to Na Piarsaigh in the Shield Semi final. Heavy rain during the day made it more difficult for hurling but both teams served up a close and exciting encounter where the result was in doubt up to the final whistle.
We were minus a few regulars but still took the game to Na Piarsaigh in the first half and held a 1 point lead at half time. It was equally tight in the second half but the game looked up for us when we fell behind by 4 points.
However, our lads showed great character as they have done all year to fight back well and equalised through a great run and point by James Conheady followed up by a brilliant goal from Sam Riordan to leave the game level with a couple of minutes to go.
Next score was vital at this stage but unfortunately we conceded a goal and Na Piarsaigh added another point in injury time to leave a final score of 2-6 to 1-5.
This was a disappointing end for a team who have been very competitive all season in the top division and played some brilliant hurling throughout the season.

The U14s then turned attention to football where they played Ballyhoura Gaels in the B county semi final on Saturday in Mick Neville park. We were again missing some regulars due to injury which may have contributed to a slow start. Ballyhoura Gaels settled earlier and were on top in the early stages. They scored a goal and only some last ditch defending and good goalkeeping by Sam Riordan kept the score down. After a few positional changes, our backs settled into the game and allowed our midfield to come more into the game.
We had points from Cathal O’Neill, Rory Hannon, Colin Coughlan and Patrick Dolphin to reduce the deficit to one point by half time, 1-4 to 0-6.
Our lads came out very strong in the second half and within 10 minutes had added 2 goals from Cathal O’Neill and Colin Coughlan.
We added on 3 points during that time with Jack Dalton also getting on the score-sheet to put us in a commanding position.
We extended out lead with some well taken points and our defense restricted Ballyhoura Gaels to 1-1 in the second half.
In the end we ran out winners on a scoreline of 2-14 to 2-5 and now progress to the final with Askeaton Ballysteen.
U14 Hurling and Football squad : Rory Hannon, Padraig Byrnes, Jack Dalton, John Bourke, Chris Shanahan, Darragh O’Keefe, Colin Coughlan, Eoghan O’Connor, Richard Murphy, Cian Enright, Cathal O’Neill, James Conheady, Fergal Egan, Sam Riordan, Ciaran Kennedy, Nial Khan, Colin Haighney, Brendan Power, Dara Nash, Patrick Dolphin, Rory Quirke, Cillian O’Brien, Joshua Skehan-Fitzgerald, Philip O’Toole, Rian O’Byrne, Michael Maher, Killian Scanlon, Jack Duggan, John O’Donnell.

U13 Notes
Our U13 Hurlers began their campaign with a 4:16 to 0:4 win V Kilmallock , followed by a 4:13 to 1:2 win over st Kierans . We then received a walkover from Croagh Kilfinny and rounded up with a 4:8 to 1:3 win over Deel Rangers. We travel to Newcastlewest on Wednesday night for a winner takes all game.
If we win we move on to the county final , if we loose we are out of the U13 League so all to play for on Wednesday evening and support would be very welcome. Match throws in at 6:30pm.
Our U13 football squad begin their campaign next Sunday with an away game V Deel Rangers . This game is on in Knockaderry @ 6pm .
We follow this with a home game V St Kierans on Monday 5th Oct , away to Bruff on Wednesday 7th and finally home to Askeaton on Monday 12th October.

Congratulations to the Limerick under 21 hurlers who captured the county’s fifth All-Ireland title at this grade with a 0-26 to 1-7 rout of Wexford at Semple Stadium Thurles last Saturday night. The quality of the Limerick performance and the subsequent pitch invasion by fans will live long in the memory of Limerick supporters. MINOR HURLERS:

Our minor hurlers welcomed top of the table Bruree to Crecora last Tuesday night in the fourth round of the 13 a side championship. This was a highly competitive entraining hurling match that Crecora won to put them now in contention for a playoff spot.
It was a real team effort from all the players who showed great heart and spirit to keep battling when Bruree came back at us hard in the second half after we looked comfortable enough at half time leading on a score line of Crecora 1-13 to Bruree 1-7. We had strong performances all over the pitch and Michael Bateman had a super match scoring 1-5. He had great help from Edwin Wixted who scored 0-9, Gary O’Connell’s tally of 1-1, Shane O’Connell and Damian Kearney who scored 0-2 each and a goal from Donnacha Connolly.
Our goal keeper Ciaran Humphreys made some important saves at vital times in the game and our back line battled hard when it mattered.
Final Score was Crecora/Manister 3-19 Bruree 4-9.
Team: Ciarán Humphreys; Paraic O’Neill, Tomas Connolly; Jake Loughran, Cian Leahy, Karl Moloney; Barry Fitzgibbon, Edwin Wixted (0-9); Gary O’Connell (1-1), Michael Bateman (1-5), Shane O’Connell (0-2); Damian Kearney (0-2), Conor Kirby; Subs: Mark Shanahan, Evan Keogh, Donnacha Connolly (1-0), Michael Fitzgerald, Shane O’Connor and Thomas Shanahan.

Your support as always is welcome.

MINOR FOOTBALLERS:

Crecora Manister gave a fine footballing display against Kilteely-Dromkeen last Friday night with great performances right across the team especially from Michael Bateman and Karl Moloney who covered some amount of ground during the game. Gary O’Connell and Robert Grear also had fine games along with Paul Collins our top scorer. We had our biggest turn out to choose from and we chalked up a big score from the chosen 13.
Our scores came from Paul Collins 2-3, Damian Kearney 1-3, Shane and Gary O’Connell 1-2 each, Michael Bateman and Robert Grear 3 points each and Mark Shanahan 1 goal and a welcome return to Mark who has been side-lined with an injury for most of the summer. The final score read 6-16 to 1-5 in our favour.
Team: Robert Sweeney; Tomás Connolly, Cian Leahy; Donnacha Connolly, Paraic O’Neill, Karl Moloney; Barry Fitzgibbon, Michael Bateman (0-3); Paul Collins (2-3), Gary O’Connell (1-2), Robert Grear (0-3); Shane O’Connell (1-2), Damian Kearney (1-3); Subs: Eoin Kennedy, Conor Kirby, Peter Boohan, Jake Loughran, Michael Fitzgerald, Mark Shanahan (1-0), Tim Moloney, Ciaran Humphreys and Shane O’Connor.
This win has qualified us for the county semi final against Ballylanders which will take place in a few weeks time.

UNDER 14s:

Our under 14 hurlers were narrowly beaten by our neighbours Patrickwell in the division 1 playoff on a final scoreline of 2-12 to 3-7. They will now have home advantage against Na Piarsaigh in the shield semi final on Monday 14th September.
Our footballers meanwhile await their division 2 semi final against Ballyhoura Gaels (Effin, Staker Wallace, Blackrock) with a time, date and venue for that game to be confirmed.

UNDER 12s:

Last Friday night, our u12 hurlers played their end of season finals out in UL with 2 games against Adare and Ballybrown in UL North Campus. A great night was had by all and this was a fitting end to a good season.
